Despite tensions, US-China AI research collaborations are alive and well Over the past 10 years, the U.S. and China have been the most frequent partners in AI research.

The field of AI has long been dominated by the U.S. and Europe. Recently, however, AI research has become more collaborative across countries outside of the West, according to a Rest of World analysis.

Sankey diagram showing research collaboration flows between non-Western countries (left) and their top collaborator countries (right). Thicker lines indicate more collaborations, with the United States and United Kingdom being major collaborators for most countries.

Line graph showing AI research collaborations from 2014-2024, with a popup detail, which has a small bar chart, for South Korea showing it had 799 collaborations in 2017.

It's still underappreciated how one company, Reliance Jio, made smartphone data dirt cheap, and turbocharged internet use in India.

That was a shot in the arm to every international internet company, including Meta, Google, Netflix.

New data shows the number of new mobile internet users is stalling What happened to the β€œnext billion” internet users? They’re already online.

"From 2015 to 2021, the survey consistently found over 200 million coming online through mobile devices around the world each year. But in the last two years, that number has dropped to 160 million." We're at the top of the S-curve. #Technology https://restofworld.org/2024/mobile-internet-users-gro…
