I see the "e-bikers are lazy and ruining cycling" discourse has arrived with the warm weather, and so let me just share this thing I wrote about how getting an e-bike after I got #LongCOVID gave me back one of the most joyful parts of my life that I thought was lost to me forever. bit.ly/48ohIH5
Oh gosh, these news articles detail three people hospitalized in Calgary over four days, all hit in marked crosswalks. Includes a child and a woman in her 70s. And the driver who hit the child fled the scene.

ohh lovely! @shifter.info likely has a recommendation.
"e-bike till we qualified". Love it.
"I don’t know the moment it happened; it must’ve been a slow realization. ‘My bike is my mobility aid’." Great article from @bikehfxlobby.bsky.social published In Active Travel Studies activetravelstudies.org/article/id/1...
Congrats to Rep. @katiejonesmpls.bsky.social and family, who biked to the hospital last week and came back with baby Hans. Here's what she told me about the ride:
It's wild! I just read this in a Metro Vancouver report: Households with two or more vehicles spend, on average, $30,815 annually on transportation; single-vehicle households spend an average of $13,798
For a personal finance story, I'm looking to speak with Canadians about transportation costs + housing. Did you buy a more affordable house farther out, then find vehicle costs + travel time added up? Or are you considering transportation in a house hunt? DM or email cailynn.klingbeil@gmail.com Thx!
Still skiing at 95! This is my dream! globalnews.ca/news/1170688...

Well this is exciting! The Calgary-Airdrie pathway is going to be revisited, as well as others including Calgary-Cochrane, as #yyccc and the new Regional Table develop a "Regional Active Mobility Corridor Plan". Sweet #yycbike news!
Would love to hear your thoughts on this City of Calgary PSA.

City of Calgary - it's your fault your child died because you were thinking too much about food/work/home/whatever is quite the take.
I'm sorry you had to do that. I feel the anger/sadness combo 100%.
It makes me so mad and so sad.
When people are being killed in marked crosswalks, and especially when one of them was a toddler being pushed in a stroller by their parents, the continued implication that the solution is a shared responsibility of “awareness” is pretty ridiculous.
Whoa @calgary.ca. Eight days ago, a driver struck and killed a toddler in a stroller in a marked crosswalk. The next day, the driver of a tractor trailer hit and killed a senior in a marked crosswalk. Those deaths come after a record 15 pedestrians were killed in 2025.
And this is your message?! 😡😢
Alberta immigration trends and Danielle Smith's rhetoric: a visual timeline.
Hard to see how things will improve while @calgarypolice.bsky.social continues to suggest pedestrians in marked crosswalks share the blame for their own deaths. "I think it's a good reminder that as we're driving and as pedestrians we need to be aware of our surroundings."

Road violence is a political choice. How much carnage will our leaders tolerate before they take drastic action? www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
😍
I saw it in person and it looks so good!
Cargo bikes and garage murals! This is the perfect combo of my niche interests. (cc @cpageyyc.bsky.social)
I'd call it newer! Are you open to chatting next week?
Amidst a frenzied resale market, Calgary’s east remains the last bastion of affordability for moderate income buyers—why?
I delve into this in my latest story for the Globe and Mail 👇
For a magazine piece, I'm looking to talk with #yyc families who live in newer communities about the amenities (or lack thereof) in their neighbourhoods. (Playgrounds, grocery stores, childcare, etc.) If this is you or someone you know, please send a DM or email cailynn.klingbeil@gmail.com. Thanks!!
Lucky! I did not. 😓
I've entered the wild parenting stage that is trying to manage Kindergarten in Alberta. This means... just under three hours a day at school! Limited childcare options! Transportation gaps between the school and childcare! Send advice please, ideally involving no one needing to quit their job.🤦♀️

Update for those following my snow clearing grievances! @mykeatkinson.bsky.social's office was super helpful and has confirmed it is indeed North Hill Mall's responsibility. #yyccc #yycwalk
