I’m saddened to hear Ricardo passed. He taught a lit theory class at Dartmouth that I took in 1996. I remember a presentation I gave on graphic novels. I wore a tie & said “I want this to be an informal presentation” and he said w/o missing a beat: “you just deconstructed yourself.” RIP Ricardo.

How do we make sense of the work we as legal comparativists do in a world animated by emotions like hatred & fear? I try to make sense of this in “Adversarial Comparativism: The Role of Emotion in U.S.-China Comparative Law Projects” just published in AJCL. academic.oup.com/ajcl/advance...

William E. Nelson
William E. Nelson ( NYU ) William E. Nelson , the Judge Edward Weinfeld Professor of Law Emeritus at the New York University School of Law ,...
Very sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. He was a true scholar and a gentleman. He took the time to get to know junior scholars and gave them a boost through his colloquium. He had a gentle manner but a fierce intellect. Rest in peace.

On Nov. 14 & 15, I was fortunate to attend a special conference to honor the life & works of Professor Frank Upham of NYU Law School who is retiring. Frank’s approach to understanding the relationships b/w law, politics, & ideology in comparative & socio-legal studies has left a profound legacy.

Looking forward to returning to the #AmericanAnthropologicalAssociation annual meeting after about a 10-year hiatus. If there was ever a time to think outside the box, this is it, and anthros are trained to do exactly that.
Excited to participate in these 2 China legal anthro events.
