Friends! The ICE siege of Minneapolis is not over, and YOU can help keep 200 families safe and housed for another month!
These are trusted folks who have already helped 10% of all Central Minneapolis households pay rent. Please pitch in: gofund.me/d4acb0e6c
Black white and blue poster that reads: MARCH 1 RENT STRIKE DRIVE TWIN CITIES TENANTS: PLEDGE TO WITHHOLD RENT WITH 10K+ NEIGHBORS Twin cities tenant union
WHY RENT STRIKE? (PART 1) ICE OUT We can create an economic crisis shows that ICE is bad for the Twin Cities and ICE is bad for the economy. EVICTION MORATORIUM No evictions under occupation. This is the easiest action the Governor can take to care for Minnesotans. RENT RELIEF The legislature should open a so0 million rent reliet fund. It should come with strong tenant protections. SOLIDARITY If thousands of us who can pay our rent decided not to pay, we create a buffer around those who cannot pay, mucking up eviction courts and landlords' financials.
WHY RENT STRIKE? (PART 2) ECONOMIC DISRUPTION The rent is the biggest bill for most tenants, a major challenge in a moment of crisis, but also an opportunity for a different kind of leverage. Compared to other forms of economic disruption, like time-limited or corporation-specific boycotts, or calling out from a day of work, a rent strike could pose an unwieldy, unpredictable economic problem for capital, which could force a political response.
HOW WOULD A CITIES-WIDE RENT STRIKE WORK? This only works if it is real. The strike cannot be just vibes-based, or exist only on social media. We are committed to organizing a real base of people who are actually ready to withhold rent. tests (hich measure participation be tore ture would go on strike. Right now we are in the first phase, which is the strike drive. During this phase we assess our power. If we reach at least 10,000 commitments and we pass our other tests, we will call for strike authorization, which would occur in a meeting of Twin Cities Tenants on February 28. Authorization is the last chance for our targets to meet our demands. If we are ready, and if they fail to do so, we strike on March 1. STRIKE DRIVE (FEB 17-FEB 28) STRIKE AUTHORIZATION (FEB 28) STRIKE (MARCH 1)

Also, @ziibiing.com has updated the standwithminnesota.com site to facilitate donating your unused Delta Skymiles to bringing people home after theyβve been kidnapped and dumped out of state
I talked to the brilliant @olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social about the sentence he has been repeating for months, "I do not regret to inform you that we are going to win." We discussed anti-Trump organizing and the important of sharing resistance successes. newrepublic.com/article/2059...
Every social theory undergirding Trumpism has been broken on the steel of Minnesotan resolve. The multiracial community in Minneapolis was supposed to shatter. It did not. It held until Bovino was forced out of the Twin Cities with his long coat between his legs. The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that theyβre the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesiveβbecause of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority. Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about βWestern civilization,β while armed brutes try to tear it down by force.
Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significantβthough not finalβvictory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Minneapolis says no to ICE.
βBut what deeply troubles me now is that for all the steps we've taken toward integration, I've come to believe that we are integrating into a burning house."Β
Dr. King said this famous quote on March 27th, 1968, mere days before his murder. But the context around the quote is interesting...

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.
The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
After ICE agents shot people in Minneapolis tonight, a crowd faced them down and eventually chased them away, despite federal mercenaries and police shooting a tremendous amount of tear gas.
ICE agents abandoned vehicles in the area, containing IDs, paperwork, license plates, and operational plans.
Jonathan Ross was a firearms trainer and led a team that included multiple federal agencies. All this training didn't stop him from shooting Renee Nicole Good. His training *facilitated* the shooting.
No amount of training will solve the problem that ICE is a violent ethnic cleansing squad.
example of an administrative ICE warrant and a judicial warrant being passed around
the best antidote to blackpilling is remembering that every video you see of an ICE thug abusing their power was recorded by an American who volunteered to put themselves in harm's way for the sake of people they've likely never met and never will
They don't have capacity to terrorize more than 2-3 cities at a time.
Which means they rotate teams to new cities without relief.
Which means consistent resistance by fresh activists in each new city will break them over time.
Which means if you're city's not occupied, rest up and get ready.
Cis people can do this, too! I remember a defector mailbag where a guy was like βIβve always gone by Andy, can I start going by Andrew instead?β Dog you can start going by Sasquatch if you want youβre a free man.
THREAD. Every year, I tell the story of Ezell Gilbert. It's the story of one of the most remarkable cases in U.S. history, and youβve probably never heard of it. The story of what the U.S. government did to him is vital for understanding the current moment we are in.
