Heat map of potential congestion if the M8 Woodside viaducts were removed (with no other action) by Transport Scotland
This was the heat map shown at consultation event. The guy said it was for removal only. I asked about other changes to transport network and plans for the land but he wouldnβt be drawn on any of that. He said Replace the M8 βhad been inβ and the Remove option had been quite popular

Start of Spokes budget article... ScotGov draft budget 26/27: Active Travel obfuscation The βLevel 4 spreadsheetβ accompanying the Scottish Governmentβs draft budget shows Support for Active and Sustainable Travel rising by an incredible 66.3%, from Β£135.8m in 25/26 to Β£226m in 26/27. This has been widely commended. However, when the smoke and mirrors are removed, it seems likely that total funding for active travel will actually fall slightly in cash terms, and, as a % of total transport, from 4.3% in 25/26 to less than 4% in 26/27. How can such an apparantly good news story be so misleading? We discuss this in detail later below, but, in summaryβ¦ the big combined rise in Active and Sustainable looks likely to be for Sustainable (specifically, bus infrastructure) whilst Active looks likely to fall the quoted Β£135.8m for Active and Sustainable is misleadingly low, which makes the 66% increase to Β£226m look misleadingly high.

Inverclyde Council are looking at a new Active Travel Strategy. Thereβs been progress since their 2018 ATS (especially on coastal routes). But what are barriers to walking, wheeling or cycling for short trips and which routes should be prioritised?

Good progress and encouraging words from Angus Millar
Top of our wishlist for 2024 is for phase 1 of the city network (Govan, Southside and North Glasgow) to kick on in earnest, and for the paused Avenues projects to resume.

Cities like Paris and London are becoming cycling cities, where bikes outnumber cars. It's the future - it moves more people, more cheaply, using less energy. It creates better health and better local economies. Cities like Glasgow have to keep up if we want to prosper.
There's a full map of Glasgow Council 's proposed cycle network here. The numbers indicate the order in which it will be built. What do you think? Will it all happen by 2030? Is your area well-covered?
experience.arcgis.com/experience/d...
The incredible finding that 13% of trips on Victoria Road are now by bike proves that huge demand for cycling is supressed only by our dangerous roads. If @GlasgowCC and @AngusCMillar build the full network they've promised, Glasgow will become a city of mass cycling.

This unacceptable; if cost pressures mean the program cannot be delivered in full, then pedestrian and cycle safety measures must be taken promptly using cheaper methods. The status quo, with its attendant road violence and environmental crises, cannot continue.
