One of the things that gets me about this whole "replace people in publishing with AI" thing is that people in publishing (translators / editors / copy editors / authors / etc) are among the worst fucking paid people out there.
while I can't physically *do* both things at the same time, I can still love them at the same time
for a long time I felt bad for enjoying teaching because it felt like I had given up on comics. 4 years of undergrad BFA and a master's in sequential arts for nothing. but I'm beginning to realize that becoming a teacher doesn't mean I can't still love comics and all I've learned

Editors have a really hard job, and the good ones can make something unreadable readable, and the great ones can make something unreadable into something good. But they're basically invisible, until someone tries to write without one.

that's what I did with teaching! kept getting to the final round of interviews and then passed over for like a year and a half and then started teaching after I got too discouraged. I still apply for jobs sometimes though! just in case

besides recovering from burnout, I've also been dealing with some Fun New Health Problems, one of which has been affecting my hands. I love drawing, but I've been losing a lot of dexterity in my fingers. one of the things I love most in the world is becoming more difficult and painful, which sucks
