It is appalling to reflect that the death of far right influencer Charlie Kirk precipitated an orgy of โ€œnational mourningโ€ while the deaths of US servicemen in an illegal war barely even register.

Israel is bombarding, literally bombarding, two Middle East capitals, Beirut and Tehran, killing 100s of civilians, and yet the US and UK media continue to portray Iran as the threat to the region.

Israel has nukes, but Iran is the nuclear threat.

We live in Orwellian times.

As if this week's news wasn't intense enough...

Global warming is now speeding up. Quite a lot, as it happens.

2) Overshoot will not be temporary or even reversible. Some of the proposed plans to reverse temperatures are, upon inspection, extremely threadbare, serving as little more than mood music intended to maintain optimism. The reality is that large-scale carbon dioxide removal, does not exist. 5/11

Yes we can no we didnโ€™t Those who cannot learn from past failures are condemned to repeat them (apologies to Santayana)

I've been fortunate enough to meet many formidably smart, fully committed, & thoroughly decent people who, for years, have strived to try to avert dangerous climate change.

They failed.

Saying that does not lessen my gratitude to them, 1/11

Labour is losing voters to progressive parties disproportionately.
And they are not mainly "lanyard" professional or working classes, the oppositional forces of Blue Labour and right discourse.
It's squeezed millennials in service careers.
Which our politics ignores.
โ€ข Demographically, most progressive defectors are frustrated lower middle class Millennials - not affluent urbanites or a PMC 'lanyard class. Though they have liberal social values, many are frustrated graduates; Millennials with a mortgage or rent they are struggling to afford - primary school teachers, IT support or clerical workers. In short, the face of the modern social democratic voter.

Speaking as a lower middle class graduate with an office job and a mortgage, born in the late seventies, I would say: this is half my social circle and most of the people I worked with for years. How in the name of Christ did nobody in politics or media see this coming?

We failed to avert dangerous climate change. That has consequences. Here I discuss three that, alas, no government seems to want to publicly acknowledge. My latest for Technosphere Earth

Good news: Scientists were wrong about how bad sea level rise is.

Bad news: Itโ€™s even worse than we thought.

I don't think I'll ever recover from the media and political classes receiving a cornucopia of evidence that the world is ruled - still, today - by a global paedophile cabal and carrying on as if it was a regular Tuesday

Read these words from 100 years ago about immigrants in Britain โ€“ and see how history is chillingly repeating itself | George Monbiot Shabana Mahmoodโ€™s new rights clampdown looks outlandish until we remember that this kind of hardline action is part of our countryโ€™s fabric, says George Monbiot

The precedent is eerily, chillingly precise. What the current Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is doing to immigrants and refugees today is almost a carbon copy of what Sir William Joynson-Hicks was doing 100 years ago. And that's not a good thing. My column.

Analysts said it was not clear that destroying the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a 180,000-strong force, was possible. And Israeli officials have not said exactly how they plan to lay the groundwork for the regime's overthrow, or what might come after that, though they have suggested covert operations may be involved.
Summarising the Israeli government's position, Citrinowicz said: "If we can have a coup, great. If we can have people on the streets, great. If we can have a civil war, great. Israel couldn't care less about the future... [or] the stability of Iran.

I notice that it was left shitposters who immediately said the aim here would be to turn Iran - a country of ninety million people - into a war-torn, ungovernable Mad Max hellscape, if possible.

Scientific American has updated the figure, now grouped into swimmers, fliers, walkers/runners, and vehicles. A person on a bicycle remains the most efficient way to travel, compared to all forms of biological locomotion and mechanical transport.

Yes: we gladly swallow any insults, ignore their open contempt, assist in wars that are devastating to our own national interest and sit quietly while the America government openly tries to shitehouse us towards fascism, like them. Why? You tell me mate: because Itโ€™s How Things Are Done, I guess.

I'm old enough to remember that if you talked about an Israeli lobby you'd be accused of antisemitism

Heres BBC News discussing the suggestion that the US has been dragged into war against Iran by Israel: "Is it ridiculous? Israel certainly has influence over White House policy"

Listening to Darren Jones floundering on Today, I think the govt needs to talk more candidly about its differences with the US.

That can still be respectful - this isn't "Love Actually" - but when a US President is phoning the UK press to attack the PM, there's no point rolling out the usual script

The Trump admin did this because they are belligerent idiots, drunk out of their minds on impunity, and because US foreign policy for decades has been a disgusting mess of venal morons urging each other on to arm Israel to the teeth and smash their enemies, as a test of virility.

All Europeans will pay the price for their leaders' reaction to the ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ attack on Iran this weekend.

European leaders (all except Pedro Sanchez) have now accepted the end of international law.

The consequences of this will be felt not for weeks, not for years, but for decades

Fossil fuel firms claim a 'proppant squeeze' is different from fracking & therefore not banned in the UK.
