On February 6 (~2 weeks prior to the sanctions), Georgia’s anti-EU media Oligarch [Follow the Money] Irakli Rukhadze sold Imedi TV for a symbolic 1,000 GEL (approx. $370). The channel became jointly owned by Prime Media Global (Ilia Mikelaishvili) and its management.
Director Disqualification: The individuals running these channels are legally barred from being a director of any company in the UK. They are also prohibited from being involved in the promotion, formation, or management of any UK registered business.
Trust Services Sanction: UK professionals are prohibited from helping these channels create or manage trusts. This includes providing business addresses, acting as trustees, or serving as nominee shareholders to manage their assets.
What it means
Asset Freeze: All funds and property belonging to these channels in the UK are frozen. It is illegal for any UK person or business to make money or resources, such as property or vehicles, available to them directly or indirectly. This also applies to any entities they own or control.
BREAKING: The UK has sanctioned Georgian TV channels POSTV and IMEDI TV under Russia Sanctions regulations. The Foreign Office cites the deliberate spread of Russian disinformation and undermining Ukraine's sovereignty. Asset freezes and trust services restrictions are now in effect.

The current number of protesters who have had their bank accounts frozen is unknown. at least hundreds, if not thousands have been fined since the 2024 November protests in Georgia.
By current law, appealing the fines does not stop enforcement. With new repressive legislations, the same action would now lead to mandatory administrative detention instead of a fine.
