Need to sort some specific attire for #thedefiningten on Saturday 28th March at the Cellar Arts Club CIC (matinee event - 2.30pm-6pm!)
Struggling - this is kinda the closest I can get. Will see…
Anyway, announcement THIS Friday at 9am and tickets on sale 7.30pm that evening…
Anyway, now most of my work is done on setting up the event kicking back and getting the Kempston out to have a go on this classic…never did manage to get more than 3 pieces of the amulet back in the day…
Looks like we’re all set on the next #thedefiningten which will be another SATURDAY matinee event - 2:30pm to 6pm at the Cellar Arts Club CIC as usual. Announcement to come Friday 9am and tickets on sale 7.30pm (gives you all chance to check in with mates to see who wants to come etc 🙂 )
New #musicvideo I’ve made, which as the music for this project is all very #plunderphonics I’ve followed that approach for the video. It’s very #NSFW but possibly SFWFH with no impressionable eyes around…contains violent images which might be triggering to some people.

I don't think I ever actually went to the Faversham shop....maybe once, certainly never went to the Sheerness one. Whitstable shop still going very strong and in an amazing pair of hands.
the supermarket aggressive pricing and weekly newspaper giveaways affecting the older demographics. Have fond memories of dealing with most of these, some sadly missed.
Anyone have any memories of them too?
Got to also remember this is mostly all cd turnover so cost per unit was lower - so that’s a LOT of cds being shifted and at a not very high margin….and the market is already in very challenging times with torrenting hitting the younger demographic’s buying and
then oddly The Woods in Bognor who had a huge mail order business, then those “chains” of Gatefield and Essential all added up when you put 4 shops together - surprising how big they were and with a turnover that most shops would love to have these days!
Out of this list 3 shops still fabulously continue to exist (Gatefield in Whitstable - still at the same address - and Square and Rock Box - both moved since then) and wholesaler Direct Dance still exist, have a feeling Soul Trader do too but not with me.
Removed turnover and some email addresses,
Fax machines still in use and some stores still yet to get an email address…
Still splitting out which stores are singles or albums (s and a columns), which have the display initiative (ie racks of dummy cd sleeves racking giving profile in store that would need stickering up and changed),
Here’s a bizarre snapshot I found in a notebook tape log the other day - the indie accounts I dealt with in the dayjob as of May 2004.
32 accounts - sheet accurate as 19 I visited physically every week. Some not geographically on the area (the weird way accounts would be split up between the team)
Andrew in the car on the way back from the police station
Bob Hoskins in the car in The Long Good Friday
Okay, this is quite outstanding from Bedford Council.
I don’t know who needs to hear Jesse Jackson leading the kids on Sesame Street in this beautiful call-and-response reminding them that every child is somebody, but here it is
Kieron and Emma the loveliest people and a joy to work with.
Looking through shoe boxes of memories yesterday and came across this lovely set of #bluenote postcards. Not sure if these would have been in a bar in town (back when promo companies would do that) as we didn’t really use promo stuff bar random freebies at Selectadisc. Still, a nice cool set.
Still believe #thefuturewillprovethemright - for a kid into video games/ video shop trash action/ slight glimpses of Japanese anime/ manga exotic culture they were stupendous. Screw the press. Funnily enough I came across a piece of paper last night advertising their tshirts mail order :)
Giant menacing robot body, stooopid piddly widdly eyes on stalks.
Did they just put Van’s hair on a picture of Richard Branson?
@robinallender.bsky.social here you go ;)
(Oh, and on 80s Van - grew up with parents playing Belfast Opera lpI have a massive soft spot for When God Shines His Light…cred problematic with Cliff and religious, but I argue is J Spaceman can take gospel songs or stuff about Jesus and make it cred, can we just accept this as an uplifting song?)
I wrote about Chris Rea, the importance of the music you heard on the car stereo growing up, and ‘cool’ and ‘uncool’ music

Love this! Plenty of links to explore - I’ll try and tag you in my big post about meeting Chris which I put up after he died
Heard it for the first time ten years ago - surprised how much it sounded like Elbow. It’s a very rich sound.
Wow what an incredible interior
