Absolutely sickened by the relentless propaganda around so-called Dry January. In my thoughtful and balanced post, I explain why we should shun this sour, faithless pseudo-Lent. (Link in bio)

Early November is a splendid time to visit Tbilisi. The harvest is in, incense smoke drifts through ancient churches, and my table is filled with barbecued meat, steamed dumplings and cheese-filled flatbread.

Wine or Sword? Kartlis Deda (β€œMother of Georgians”) stands above Tbilisi’s old town, Sololaki. In her left hand a bowl of wine to greet those who come as friends, in her right hand a sword for those who come as enemies. Designed by prominent Georgian sculptor Elguja Amashukeli and erected in 1958

πŸ‡²πŸ‡© Moldova, you’ve done it again.

No attempt to sow fear or division could break your resolve.

You made your choice clear:

Europe. Democracy. Freedom.

Our door is open. And we will stand with you every step of the way.

The future is yours.

Wild lettuce secretes a milky substance that was used in the 19th century as a sedative. It is sometimes known as β€œopium lettuce.”

And that’s why salads for lunch are dangerous.

Zeller Schwarze Katz (Black Cat) is a German vineyard region near Zell/Mosel. Legend says in 1863, when Aachen wine merchants couldn't choose between three barrels of winemaker Peter Anton, a black cat jumped on one and defended it fiercely. They bought that barrel.
