The PR of the AI industry is basically “on the one hand, you won’t have a job, but on the other hand, even if you did, you wouldn’t be able to buy anything because we’ve made it all tremendously more expensive. But, the AI will do all your art & writing for you, so there’s that!” Not the best pitch.

I try not to be a reflexive AI hater bc the tech has some interesting applications & I don’t want to be like the mindless anti-🤖 protesters portrayed in Astro Boy… but man, the AI industry is doing absolutely everything it can to get everyone to hate AI, & to some degree I understand the animosity.

Okay, I try not to be a reflexive AI hater, but is there a way to turn off the new Gmail “feature” where it constantly nudges me to press / for it to write emails for me or to press Tab for it to “improve” my writing? I’m not a fucking toddler, I can write my own e-mails, thank you. 😠

And I get it, concerns about electability have held back leftist candidates for ages. But, hear me out, leftists: there's no reason to think a candidate who lies this much would be a reliable vote for the Left. Mills, OTOH, is not only popular, she has an actual track record of standing up to Trump!

Yeah, we should really not risk the important task of unseating Collins to this guy. If he were sincere about redeeming himself from old mistakes, he'd be dropping out of the race now. We can't afford to have a candidate who lies about his Nazi tattoo while we're taking on modern-day Nazis.

But yeah, I’m lucky… it wasn’t easy to be trans in 2001 (nor is it now), but I’m glad I got such a head start on living my life. Not everyone gets that opportunity 😢

I just realized… it’s been 25 years since I socially transitioned in high school… I’ve been out as trans for a quarter-century. That makes me feel proud, and a little old 👵

Ah, the famous sleight-of-hand where we pretend that penalizing one isn't penalizing both. (Besides, forcing sex workers to take only clients willing to break the law endangers sex workers in ways that I hope are obvious.)

First of all, you haven't addressed my original question: where is this "liberalization" of sex work? Second, are you really comparing sex workers to, say, heroin dealers? You want sex workers thrown in jail on that basis? Because that is morally abhorrent and I hope that you can see that someday.

(To state my position plainly: some do choose to be in sex work, others are forced into it by economic circumstance. Neither group is helped by the profession being largely illegal; that simply empowers abusers and makes it harder for those who genuinely want to escape to do so.)

🤨 I'm genuinely puzzled. By "liberalizing sex work" do you mean the fact that a woman having an Onlyfans doesn't carry the stigma it used to? Because I constantly see sex workers being arrested, debanked, discriminated against, etc. (and it certainly hasn't helped anyone who wants out to get out!)

I think a good rule of thumb for Woke 2 should be not to put people in binds like that, where any option (including doing nothing!) is prohibited. Best to encourage good behavior and discourage bad behavior, y'know?
