Pangolins are the most trafficked animal in the world, and are endangered. World Pangolin Day aims to raise awareness of pangolins. And hey, I wrote a book about them! They really are incredible animals!

A baby pangolin is called a pangolin and rides on its mother’s tail until it is about three months old.

To defend themselves, pangolins roll up into a ball. They can also release a stinky liquid from a gland under their tail.

Pangolin scales are made of keratin. Keratin is the same material that makes up our hair and fingernails. The edges of their scales can be very sharp.

Pangolins are endangered. They are hunted for their meat and scales and are also threatened by habitat loss.

Pangolins are the only mammals that are covered in scales. Scales cover most of their bodies, except the sides of their faces and their underbellies, which have a little fur.

It was a sunny day yesterday so I went out and painted the Edmonds Historical Museum. I don’t paint buildings very often so it was challenging, but a good learning experience.

Some tiny paintings from the beach around sunset a couple of weeks ago. It was cold and they took way too long to dry, so I’m learning to use a lot less water in my washes as the weather gets colder. Also I saw a seal so that was neat

My small plein air kit - it’s in a repurposed wooden box and holds a Winsor and Newton watercolor set, a few brushes, a small water container and a sponge. I rubber band a tiny watercolor sketchbook to the inside lid.

Yes - this box is from a kit to mount our tv on the wall, so I repurposed some parts left over from the kit and some magnets. The bottom part of the black bar is attached with a bolt so it rotates back down into the box when it’s closed. It’s a little clunky, but it works!

A couple of weeks ago, I took one of my painting kits to the park to paint the fall foliage. Yes, it is just a cardboard box with a lot of stuff taped to it, but it’s all self contained and low budget!
