Are we to take the poster seriously when they seem to think OIF is the same as the Gulf War? They aren’t the same conflict. I can’t get past the “height of Gulf War in 2009” comment

I’m disappointed to see @voiceofsandiego.org award Helix High as a model of success. Their focus on athletics is downright abusive to students. Freshman kids sports 6am—9pm multiple days a week. What I’ve witnessed there honestly should be illegal, not lauded. voiceofsandiego.org/2026/03/05/i...
A big one has been Disability Rights. You seem to be like actually not aware of some of the substantial issues in homelessness services. This group in particular litigates that all these atypical shelter options are ADA violations. How many times do I have to say it’s not about NIMBYs?
I am not making the argument that NIMBYs are the biggest problem on tiny home shelters. I have stated repeatedly my policy concerns: litigation makes them not quick or cheap to operate; they utilize relatively a lot of space for not many clients; they are very expensive to build & operate.
Did you not understand the part about lawsuits and legal settlements related to ADA? It has cost the city of San Diego a fortune, and issues with it in San Francisco drove the per person cost to like $4,500/month.
If you’re looking for an example out of CA, look at Portland’s failure with it
Yea because you can just stick this anywhere. Right. That just has not been the case in CA and Portland. And it’s expensive, $2000/month on the low end. Which might be fine if we could really make a dent in numbers but at 20 or so per site it just isn’t going to do it.
THIS! I have seen it in San Diego where safe sleep has become expensive and a big policy challenge because of NIMBY fever and frivolous lawsuits over ADA, lack of full HVAC temp control, indoor plumbing, and more. Juice isn’t worth the squeeze on this one.
In an area with high land value, why is anyone proposing low density housing of any kind for an already high cost service? Unwise
It’s so old that the property tax is likely quite low due to Prop 13. That said, my understanding was that the city wanted to own through redevelopment, then sell some or all after the development was done.
Cool, Sargent Bone Spurs in charge
THIS 100%
The Save Lloyd thing is the perfect microcosm of the NIMBY disease that plagues our cities. Just a complete inability to accept change even if the alternative is stagnation and decay. Hell, they include a Sears in this “plan,” a company with only 5 extant stores left.
Honestly shocking with the river & stream there.
Re: eastmoreland, is that area susceptible to flooding at all? I know there have been issues when the river gets high, and I’ve always wondered if Sellwood is impacted much
It will be a great project if it keeps on track and actually gets developed. I think the credit crunch hurt their timeline and progress has essentially been halted for like 2 years. I live a couple miles away & have been bummed at the delay. It’s a fantastic infill project, would love to see in PDX
I guess I’m just not into elevating and continuing the idiot bro culture that seems profligate in podcasts lately. Lefties keep trying to find the Joe Rogan magic and I guess I’m not the audience for it.
Starting off with Matt’s nonsense about University Heights was not the move. Utter man child bullshit
The war against remote work is awful. The State of CA is shameful in this regard, on the one hand preaching about diversity and climate change and the other hand implementing full time RTO. I’d love to work in public service, but don’t live in Sac, so not an option.
I follow because they are new and I keep hoping they’re going to have some interesting interviews, but I’m losing hope
Jesus Christ who cares what Matt Strabone thinks?
What I would love to know is why Portland’s city budget is substantially larger than City of San Diego despite a much, much smaller population
Getting shown up in the arena of elite impunity by *the British monarchy* is an incredible “America at 250!” achievement
Unbelievable, but consistent with the pattern of Caltrans not valuing the lives of anyone outside of a car.
Car brain runs real deep
God damnit if I have to explain one more time why free parking is NOT how to increase equitable access to Balboa Park (or any other destination for that matter), I’m going to lose my mind.
In what universe is AOC going to be President when half the country supports the actions and ideology of Trump?
My preference is that they do a full street closure to cars, similar to what Denver did with their downtown mall area with bus shuttles going up & down
He’s going to be really shocked to learn Jerusalem, Rome, Ancient Greece all riddled with 15 minute cities
They need to get rid of CarMax, and make it a park and ride. In exchange, the length of Convoy should be pedestrian and a bus shuttle just going back & forth.
