@simonnitz.bsky.social this was the trip I was going to do after the conference!!!!
How you put so much in such little time is fantastic. I am so lucky to have been born here. The follow-up discussion has sparked disbelief that we know nothing of pre-invasion Australian Indigenous governing processes from Larissa Behrendt. I hope we go there next. #boyer
Oh I am so stoked! Can't wait to listen to them!!!
We've done it π₯³
Finally, there's a canonical paper on the #QGIS project, its history, workings, and challenges: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2666389925001138
Thanks to @timlinux and @mbernasocchi for joining me in trying to tell the QGIS story π

I just want to do a cartographic post grad. Nothing else. Just cartography. I think I would have to travel overseas for it.
@foss4g.org I hope we get to see a heap of Cartographic presentations and workshops. I feel we really don't have enough Cartographic training down here in Oceania! Do you agree? And if not, where would one go for more? 2025.foss4g.org/attend/call-... #foss4g #qgis
Big thanks to Randal Hale rjhale1971.bsky.social at North River Geographic for your blog using SLYR to convert an #ArcGISPro template to #QGIS. This is exactly what we had in mind when designing it. Oh, and weβve already fixed the issue with Dynamic Textβitβll be in the next update shortly!
We have moved this to The Ship Inn nearby. See you there!
Still my favorite music and app interface.
10,000 labels to review or hours of GIS scripting & editing to do?

Henrietta came into the store today. She was born in Palestine and asked me if I had any maps of the region. She told me about living in Bethlehem and Jerusalem and going on a motorcycle ride from Damascus to Istanbul. We got to travel together briefly with this 1946 map from National Geographic.
Maps and depictions of globes in the media are centred on the USA. #gischat
Umm Australia was earlier than that
I wonder which other geospatial companies will follow them.
The fact that replies are disabled to the original post is telling. Women are more likely to sued for defamation when they complain. Out of Brittany Higgins allegations, 14 defamation followed.
Awful, spineless decision. #gischat #giscience
Awful. Imagine working there and having to do that.
I launched this site with fire history animations from across Australia a couple of weeks ago. We released an update this morning, the site now 32 regions you can zoom into and download, providing a more detailed view of fire spread across the continent. Site link animation.landscapeknowledge.net
omg the children chemical issue - I am seeing so much from The Handmaids Tale here - the environmental cleaning, the Commanders, the putting the women as stooges...
the Ability To Duplicate
Copying data from one place can be important, especially if governments are limiting access to public data. I wrote a little thing to demonstrate how to duplicate geospatial data w/ modern tooling (obstore, #stac, stac-geoparquet, etc).

Is it safe to assume that Russia itself now has access to computers inside the US Treasury, IRS, FAA, FBI, CIA, etc.?
"Job sharing roles" puts more pressure on each person and takes away why you hired the person in the first place as they bring their specific spice to the role. Working from home has been fantastic for me. It means that I can get more done but there are so many other benefits.
βYouβre a very smart guyβ, kudos for saying that with a straight face, the only false words in the whole address. π¨π¦
Any chance we can access a product to put in the QGIS Style Hub?
For my friends around the world sad about the state of democracy, you can now see how it works in Australia. It's not the best, but it keeps us feeling somewhat secure. thamesandhudson.com.au/product/how-...
