I'm so sorry, Achilles
@drunkonmystery
"And in all the million ages to come, I will never breathe, or laugh, or twitch again. So won't you run and play with me here among the teeming mass of humanity? The universe has spared us this moment."
I'm so sorry, Achilles
I'm going to take my boys to MegaCon in a few weeks to see costumes and booths and things, but looking at the guest list, it's very funny to me to see Frank Miller listed as "Legendary Creator".
Which like.....it IS true, and probably sounds better than "Weirdo fascist"
There is a character in the book I read a couple months ago that took place in like 1600s China, and his whole thing was that he was a super manly farmer who was crazy strong and had awesome stamina, and he's insanely jealous of his little brother, a huge nerd who works in the palace doing budgets.
should be other Senate priorities.
It makes plenty of sense to spend big money in Texas, just not on the Senate campaign.
Their current gerrymander can very easily turn into a dummy-mander, and that's where the smart money is.
Spending SOME money on TX-senate makes sense, because of how the Senate races are laid out, but there
"Tell Donald: I want him to know itsa me"
"Also: It's important to think in advance about what your goals are. That will inform what kind of workouts you should do."
I think it's more to re-state the idea that just because something is bad doesn't make it a war crime, which is a classification that has very specific criteria.
I'm old enough to remember when the Battery Power farm system guys went down to ST, and all came back talking about how Ronald, a guy basically none of us had heard of, was their new consensus #1 prospect, and everyone collectively went: "HUH?!?!"
If you know, you know
Agreed.
But the swing still looks so, so pure
You know what?
I think this Acuna guy might have a future in baseball.
I think about "A good mannequin is hard to find....aquin" at least once a month.
"The Good Twin" episode of GLOW is one of the best episodes of television I've ever seen.
From the moment he first stepped onto a debate stage, everyone on the Republican understood the 2 step problem of
1. Someone had to do something
2. It'll be incredibly damaging for the person who does something.
So the biggest problem is that they're all selfish cowards
"Would I like to lead a faction with rejects and PC trainees in the WWE's third brand?
Or hang out with guys I'm already friends with in AEW and wrestle Darby and Orange Cassidy?"
Boy, I don't know
"Was cursed to look like Al Pacino after betraying God" IS a pretty funny punishment.
AND OH BOY WERE THEY

"He was the most beautiful of all the angels"
"So...you have a thing for goats then?"
I have been using the handle "Drunk On Mystery" since college, after being shown a video of myself saying "Yeah, I'm drunk; drunk on MYSTERY wooohoowoeooe" at a girl who was annoying me at a party, which I thought was absolutely hilarious.
So this handle is now almost old enough to drink.
Tender is the ghost
The ghost I love the most
Hiding from the sun
Waiting for the night to come
Tender is my heart
I'm screwing up my life
Lord, I need to find
Someone who can heal my mind
The same kid also asked me where I learned how to throw a punch, since it was my first class, and I didn't know how to tell a kid who is like 8 or 9 that I've been in actual fights with other grown men where we were legitimately trying to hurt each other.
Part of the problem is that some of them made it matter and some of them didn't, and so it's very easy for that line to blur if the person overseeing it doesn't handle the issue with some care.
Thanks to my wife, there is now video on the internet of me getting my white belt in a karate class full of children literally half my size.
At one point, one of the kids turned to me and said: "I assume you know how to do a pushup, right?" and all the parents in the room, including me, laughed
FWIW, I like about 2/3 of Firefly and hate the remaining third of it.
If the costumes and settings had looked more Asian or even more "spacey", except everyone carried handguns, I think that'd have helped mitigate some of the indirect associations with the ACW
That's totally fair, and I think the point someone else made about the costumes and dialogue clearly being influenced by westerns where the Lost Cause was intrinsic to the story hurts the show, even as it's an effective shorthand for establishing the show's tone and format.
Also, @sifu.tweety.fish, I hope you took no offense to my original post. I certainly wasn't trying to disparage you or your opinion, but I know sometimes stuff can come across weirdly on social media.
Which is a description that I would have about many, many different things from his career.
Basically: he needs an editor willing to tell him "no, absolutely not."
And after Buffy, he rarely had one.
Whedon, IMO, was always a better curator of pop culture tropes than the deep pop culture understander he was weirdly portrayed as, so so my honest best guess is that he understood them on a surface level but didn't really intellectually engage with why they were problematic.
I would have made a football score joke, but San Diego doesn't have a team anymore.
