A Snowy Egret and reflection, in rippled water, as it raises its leg out of the water to step foward towards some food hopefully. Overcast day, no strong shadows.
I know it won't be the only #SteppingOut Snowy Egret for #BirdoftheDay, they look so cool raising those yellow feet out of the water or mud. Gives good ripples too! #Birds πͺΆ #EastCoastKin #PhotographersofBlueSky
Thanks Rob - it took a few attempts.
A double exposure of a Great Egret. The smaller image shot first, then zommed in a bit and positioned the larger view of the bird behind the smaller for the 2nd exposure. All in camera.
Playing around with in-camera double exposures today. Same bird, zoomed in for the 2nd exposure. Great Egret. #Birds πͺΆ #OM3 #OMSystem @omsystem.bsky.social
A bee on a flowering currant, taken from the side, blurred background of other flowers.
One bee stopped for long enough on a flowering currant for a photo yesterday. The 100-400mm has good close focus - and this straight out of camera. #bee #insects #naturephotography #flowers #photography

Two Horned Grebes, paddling right to left, with an Eared Grebe, a little behind but between them, brining up the rear. On calm, reflective water.
This could fit #ThreesDay or #MixedPairs (sort of), with an Eared Grebe following a pair of Horned Grebes. #Birds πͺΆ
An Eared Grebe on the left, and Clark's Grebe on the right, moving right to left and about to pass the smaller but similiarly coloured Grebe.
#MixedPairs is the #BirdoftheDay theme, and I have a pair of Grebes, Eared on the left, Clark's on the right. Similar, but different. #Birds πͺΆ #EastCoastKin
Beautiful - great music choice too!
A Black Oystercatcher calls out - very loud! In the setting sun, on weed covered rocks next to water, long, pointed red bill bill wide oepn.
#BirdoftheDay is #ShoutItOut and if you've ever heard a Black Oystercatcher I'm sure you can hear this still picture. #Birds πͺΆ #EastCoastKin
Thanks Alan!
A Least Sandpiper on the harbor wall rocks at Loch Lomond Marina, San Rafael. Filtered sunlight through thin clouds, so soft shadows - good lighting for middle of the day shots. The yellow legs distinguish this from the Western Sandpiper.
The #BirdoftheDay theme today, from @robcrank68.bsky.social is #SideView, and plenty of Least Sandpipers to choose from yesterday on the harbor wall at high tide. Alt theme is #Yellow, and the yellow legs are what differentiates a Least from a Western Sandpiper. #Birds πͺΆ #EastCoastKin
Thanks Michael!
Thanks Yvonne, lucky that all the right things came together. Right place, right bird, right time.
A Great Egret in shallow water next to a mud bank. Light coming from right and back of frame, giving some rim lighting on the Egrets back, but also catching the top of its head which is angled down. Shadow cast on the mud. The light ripples are also lit up nicely.
#PerfectLighting is the #BirdoftheDay theme from @alan678.bsky.social with an alternate of #Finches and I'm going for a Great Egret shot with a little backlighting to bring out those curves, and give a good shadow. The ripples help make it too. #Birds πͺΆ #EastCoastKin
Thanks toritori!
A Coyote walking along the road, glancing over as I take a picture.
A passing Coyote on our walk this morning. We turned a corner and came across each other - both respectfully staying in our lane #EastCoastKin #OMSystem #OM3 @omsystem.bsky.social
SAnderling on the edge of the incoming ripples, chasing back and forth as the waves wash in. Cuaght them while stopped to catch their breath.
#FourorMore is the #BirdoftheDay theme, and here are certainly more than 4 Sanderling. Is Sanderling plural - or does it need an 's'? Sounds plural already. #Birds πͺΆ #EastCoastKin
@seawood.shop.web.brid.gy might be a good place to ask. Looks wonderful, if only I had a darkroom.
A Song Sparrow perched on a tall grass, taking a breath beofre the next verse.
#SongBird is the alt theme for #BirdoftheDay, and this Song Sparrow and others fill my harbour walks with their music. #Birds πͺΆ #BirdoftheDay
Thanks Sara!
Thanks!
Two people head out into the water as small waves come in. The sky is light cloud with some blue patches. A dog runs into the water from lower left, chasing a toy that has been thwon for him.
#Scape to the weekend. 70's F, Muir Beach, Marin County. #EastCoastKin
Mine too Lori!
Thanks Rob!
Thanks Cindy, I think that sums it up perfectly!
I Pied-billed Grebe, having a shake-down and spreading its wings. partially obscured by grasses, left wing and top of body with neck and head visible. Against a water background.
#BirdoftheDay theme is #BestoftheMonth, and even though this isn't technically great, and the Pied-billed Grebe just wouldn't come out from behind the grasses, this has to be my favourite capture for February. #Birds πͺΆ #EastCoastKin
An American Crow with a clam in its mouth - looking for a good spot to open it.
#ThursJay #Corvids, and the local American Crows have a taste for seafood. Here's one with a clam. #Birds πͺΆ
A Brown Pelican lands, facing the camera, wings held wide and splashes as the big webbed feet hit the water. Calm water and a reasonably clear reflection too.
#WideOpenWings is the #BirdoftheDay theme, and not quite as wide open as they go, but in brake mode on landing, still pretty wide wings from this Brown Pelican as it touches down in the harbour. #Birds πͺΆ #EastCoastKin
A Long-billed Curlew, with muddy legs and bill, and a worm at the end of its bill, just extracted from the mud bank it walks in/on. Low tide and a little water in the background.
One for #WaderWednesday, and this must be the early bird I keep hearing about. A Long-billed Curlew on this mornings walk. #Birds πͺΆ
Thanks Rob!
