Had an absolutely delightful time at the @smokelong.bsky.social reading last night. These are the best people. 🫶
Former LA Times managing editor @sarayasin.bsky.social launches The Key, a new publication about Palestine that will be "a home for journalists who have had their stories spiked in mainstream outlets."
Her opening essay is worth every second of your time: www.thekeymagazine.com/p/western-jo...
Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM
Come say hi!!
We are delighted to welcome Michael Czyzniejewski with his #shortstory Extra, out tomorrow @mczyzniejewski.bsky.social #flashfiction #readingcommunity
A government which does not want trans people to exist, and is legally allowed to force detransition in prisons, has created incentive for itself to put more trans people in prisons.
I am so excited for this re-release!
The cover of THE MISEDUCATION OF CAROLINE BINGLEY by Lindz McLeod. Two women in regency dress sit on a pink picnic blacket. The blonde woman in the light yellow dress offers a bright red apple to the dark-haired woman in the purple dress. Behind them we can see a lake and in the far distance, two horses stand in front of a grand house.
"There's an enjoyable slow burn romance that heats up in a very satisfactory way... A bouncy, energetic feel-good take that's infinitely less mean-spirited than the source text and offers happiness to far more people."
- KJ Charles (!) on my forthcoming book, The Miseducation of Caroline Bingley ❤️
Gotta say, that @travisflatt.bsky.social nails voice. Love this -
"I learned, serving six months in County for pills, that it’s smoother to give bored people their batshittedness."

It's been good this week to centre short fiction in a variety of guides - retrospective, anthology, and here collection.
@stephenrcase.bsky.social on a clutch of stories by Vanessa Fogg, who "excels at sketching out the contours of a fantasy setting without getting bogged down in its details."
My friend @transqueerfem.bsky.social is a brilliant writer, translator, organizer and founder of Brazil's first transfeminism community. Her mom has cancer and she's having a tough time.

Got re-verified after a little blip so now it's my duty as the most official looking Taco Bell account on here to report once again that eating Taco Bell makes you gay

No one in leadership at any company means it when they say they like flat organization. If they did, and there was one, they wouldn’t make so much more than you while trying to farm your job out to AI.
My friend and mentor @mattkendrick.bsky.social did a stellar job hosting my virtual launch yesterday and there were lots of dropped jaws and tears after listening to these guest readers. My heroes! Thank you to all who came out to support Not Finished Yet. It means the world to me.
I love this!! Great work, great shirt!

In this week’s newsletter, I attempt to answer a question that honestly gutted me when I first read it. I was still angry when I wrote the response and I'm not sorry. buttondown.com/monteiro/arc...
Today marks 14 years since 17-year-old, unarmed Trayvon Martin was shot and killed while walking home.
14 years later, we’re still demanding a country where our children can walk home in peace — without being treated like a threat.
A screenshot of a mobile Google search results page in dark mode for the query "Kansas trans". Under the heading "News about Kansas," there is a list of four news articles: An article from the Kansas City Star, published 13 hours ago, with the headline "Kansas informs trans residents their driver’s licenses become invalid on Thursday". The thumbnail shows a sample Kansas driver's license. An article from The Independent, published 7 hours ago, with the headline "Kansas sends letters to trans drivers demanding the immediate surrender of their licenses over birthright law". The thumbnail shows small pride flags on desks inside a legislative chamber. An article from The Topeka Capital-Journal, published 7 hours ago, with the headline "Kansas invalidates IDs and birth certificates of transgender people". The thumbnail features a close-up of colorful pride flag stickers. An article from Erin In The Morning, published 16 hours ago, with the headline "Kansas Sends Letters To Trans People Demanding The Immediate Surrender Of Drivers Licenses". The thumbnail is a nighttime photo of a state capitol building illuminated in pink and red lights.
A day later and no major national news org has covered what they're doing in Kansas.
This is the flip side of the hyper focus on trans issues by the right. The national media ignores what's actually being done to trans people.
This erasure is what contributes to the persecution.
i am glad to be a trans person on hrt. being trans is awesome and incredible and anyone persecuting trans people is hell's own jackass. gender should be a playground not a prison camp with barbed wire around it
