hmm, well simpler face means less details. so if you have a reference, ignore all the small details and focus on big areas of light and shadow. also, what you have rn is very good, tho I would probably soften the transition of the light on the lower cheek because of the spherical curve of the face

tbf you can just use them as very rough guides for accuracy. literally just lines and circles. but if it doesn't feel nice to use them, then it's okay not to. I barely use them either 😌

tbf tracing over them saves a lot of time, especially if the pose/perspective is a bit complicated. you can kinda replace the sketch stage with them, or sometimes it's just easier to make your own reference instead of finding one
