Gilmour's been an affable old guy (who plays incredible guitar) for so long that it's always startling to see how, well, dead sexy he was back in the day.

Making your own gazpacho? That's advanced angeleno-dom!
When you see the Kurds about to trust the United States again:
It's sadly ironic that at a time when trust in traditional news media is at a low, an international crisis and social media getting overrun by AI slop and propaganda accounts starkly demonstrates the need for professional news gathering and analysis.
I loathe George W. Bush and continue to think the 2nd Iraq war was a world historical tragedy and crime...but he at least spent months making the case to the US people and international community, as shoddy as it was. This Leeroy Jenkins approach to war is something different altogether.

It's fantastic. Great footage of Stevie Wonder, The Police, Elton John, et al recording some of their most iconic albums.
Have you watched Under the Volcano yet, about the recording studio in Monserrat that got wiped out by, well, a volcano? It's terrific.
Someone finally bought her a Mercedes Benz, but 55 years too late.
That was the thesis of the second half of the 2010s, when every online publication from Esquire to Teen Vogue turned into the same lefty publication. But the sad fact is...hard news isn't profitable, and big outlets had international bureaus largely out of noblesse oblige.
I saw this at an animation festival and fell in love. So much joy and craft in every frame.
Yep. Broke my heart. And yet...he wrote some books that people will still be reading in 100 years.
You have every right to be upset that Dan Simmons turned into a right wing crank after 9/11 but any honest reckoning will reveal a large percentage of the last century's best genre fiction was written by right wing cranks and it's your loss if that's a deal breaker.
Momos and beers in Kathmandu, just around the corner from where your buddy Scott shot some Dr. Strange scenes. Highly recommended experience.
Have some momos for the rest of us.
People are going to be reading his work long after his shitty post-9/11 political opinions have been forgotten.
With Bill Duke finally getting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today, I'm re-sharing the career-spanning conversation I did for @indiewire.com with him.
Like replacing Burns with Winchester on MASH.
Itβs stunning to see how different the first season wasβ¦much more Wonder Years like. But Gary Marshall was a mercenary and totally happy to pivot to what the audience wantedβ¦which was the Fonz.
I donβt know if Happy Days became better, but it certainly became different when it pivoted from being American Graffiti: The Show to Fonzie and His Friends.
Have you read this one, @manmademoon.bsky.social? It's so up your alley-- the Cursed Earth run of Judge Dredd in 2000 AD was basically an unauthorized adaptation.
It's insane that there's never been a proper adaptation of Zelazny's Damnation Alley (the terrible TV movie doesn't count) because it's the cleanest most cinematic premise ever--the Nome vaccine run, only across an irradiated, post-nuclear wasteland.
Chesebro/Palo Comado is fantastic. Miles and miles of trails, nearby stables too because it's very horse friendly.
Go out to the one in Westlake Villageβ itβs chill and has a good parking lot and you can combine it with a nice nature walk at nearby Chesebro canyon.
This might the first week in living memory that this site has actually been less contentious and angry than the other one. I could get used to this.
When the New Englanders who pioneered the ice trade wanted to crack a new market, the first thing they'd do is use their ice to whip up a batch of ice cream for the locals. It was their killer app.
The chad cosmic crisp and the virgin red delicious.
I came up in the alternative weeklies of the 1990s, which are almost all dead now. Craigslist took a blowtorch to newspaper revenues even before everything else moved online and destroyed their ad and subscriber revenue.
