At the risk of repeating myself, they don't actually care about Americans any more than Iranians, they don't think of us as people they have an obligation to. We're just chaff to be ground up as they scheme to get richer and seize power and kill their enemies. Like peasants to tsars.

Kristi Noem’s firing couldn’t happen fast enough. But unless the policy of terrorizing our immigrant communities changes, I’m not voting to give them a penny.

Over the course of my career, I can think of more than a few individuals, mostly male, but at times female, who have wielded their power over "trainees" and more junior colleagues. It has most commonly been sexual, but there are other forms of bullying and abuse, none of which should be acceptable.

Faculty knew about his behavior. My advisor was quite open about their disdain for him.

Here to lend support. Like I said, I wondered how many other women noticed and resented this. I know Nancy and I weren’t the only ones who did.

Leader of Columbia Brain Institute Quits Over Friendship With Epstein

Gift link from the NYT story about Axel and Epstein. When I was at Columbia he ran a lab where sexual harassment of women was business as usual. We all knew. We all warned each other.

How to stop a dictator I spent months studying how authoritarians like Trump lose. The answer is shockingly simple.

I have spent the past several months studying the cutting-edge research on modern democracies that have defeated authoritarian leaders.

I've learned that the conventional wisdom on the topic is wrong — in ways that have clear implications for the US going forward

The Epstein files document what many women researchers have long experienced but rarely seen laid bare so starkly: exclusion operating behind closed doors, shaping who gets funded, invited, mentored, and taken seriously. How many of these networks, norms, and gatekeepers remain in place?

i've decided not to listen to the audio of a teacher reporting a kindergartender because frankly I don't want to become the person that that event would turn me into. but one thing I hope we are collectively coming to grips with is what it meant that we have lived among such people this whole time

Individualized mRNA vaccines evoke durable T cell immunity in adjuvant TNBC - Nature In a phase 1 trial, personalized mRNA vaccines tailored to individual tumour mutations in triple-negative breast cancer induced robust, long-lasting T cell responses and improved prognosis.

The unfounded move by HHSGov against mRNA vaccines will hurt our future potent immune therapy vs cancer. Another point of progress for triple-negative breast cancer with individualized neoantigen mRNA vaccines today

“Black people are insulted, doubted, blamed, saddened, tired, and, maybe most of all, unsurprised. Racism isn't soccer's problem alone, as it is at heart societal. Soccer can help guide society, but more often it simply reflects. Nobody should like what they're seeing in that mirror.”

That old saw about how "good times make weak men" is true in the sense that stable times with material abundance create reactionaries who want to destroy the systems that protect them because they're too sheltered and stupid to understand that things can get meaningfully worse.

I don't think a lot of people appreciate how much of their overall lifestyle and relative certainty is backstopped by a steady, boring stability of systems they don't understand or even realize exist.

True decadence looks like people who are three generations removed from the cultural memory of polio refusing to vaccinate their children against deadly communicable diseases because they don't like needles and don't think there will be any consequences, not queer

So much of our present crisis is coddled, ignorant, and short sighted people tearing down the institutions that protect them because they don’t understand that bad things can happen.

ICE says federal agents appear to have lied about confrontation that led to shooting

Agents had initially said that two men — Alfredo Aljorna and Julio Sosa Celis – assaulted them with a broom and a shovel before one of them shot Sosa Celis. But that account was quickly called into question, and prosecutors now say “newly discovered evidence” contradicts the officers’ story.

The default assumption should be that they’re lying

DHS is shutting down because it refuses to obey the law. They are tear-gassing schools, killing American citizens, and disappearing legal immigrants. Democrats shouldn’t fund an out of control ICE.

Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge: it is those who know little, and not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science.

Trump Using A ‘Softer Touch’ With ICE In Minnesota? Residents Say Don’t Be Fooled. Two weeks after Alex Pretti’s killing, federal agents have shown no signs of backing down. The resistance definitely hasn't.

Trump even suggested it's time for "a softer touch."

Except residents say nothing has changed. At all. www.huffpost.com/entry/ice-mi...

There’s always room for more focus on how debate is bad and has damaged our discourse. It also completely misunderstands how scholars and scholarly work gets communicated and revised.
