Another of my favourite castles. Llansteffan Castle. It's larger and more impressive than I was expecting. And the views are just 😍
Built on the site of a Iron Age fort, the 12th century castle has spectacular views of the Afon Tywi.
My talk on the history of the witch trials in North Wales will be in Talacre and Denbigh in the next few weeks!
I'm going back to Denbigh again to give my Witches of North Wales talk! 🧙🏻♀️

Throwback to a visit to Tomen-y-Mur.
Originally a Roman fort from the first century AD. In the late 11th/early 12th century the Normans stuck a motte inside the old fort.
From the site the views are stunning (if you quickly glance over the old nuclear power station).
The Devil's Bridge, Pontarfynach, Wales.
Three bridges stacked on top of each other. The lower is medieval. Possibly built by the monks of the nearby Cistercian monastery, Strata Florida.
The middle built was built in 1753, and updated in 1814. The upper bridge was built in 1901.
5th century AD mosaics in the House of Eustolios, found in the spectacular archaeological site of Kourion. #cyprus #archaeology #mosaic
Cilgerran Castle.
The original castle on the site was built by Gerald of Windsor 1100-1105. The remains are from 1223, built by the earl of Pembroke, William Marshal.
Throwback to a visit up the dome at the Reichstag in Berlin.
After teaching German history for so long, this was something else!
Happy Valentine's Day!
Here is St Valentine's skull, that you can see in Basilica di Santa Maria in Rome.
Absolute worth a visit to the basilica, not just for the skull!
Still can't get over how magnificent this 15th century medieval hammer-beam roof is at St Colleen's in Llangollen. It's glorious!!! #Wales #Church #medieval #History
Whilst in Llangollen, we also wandered up to Plas Newydd. The house is currently closed, but you can wander around the gardens. Look at the doorway and windows! The carvings around them are insane!!! Shall be going back to visit inside once it is open again. #Llangollen #Wales #History
Before, when we got out of the car at Aldi, a woman walking past stopped me and told me I looked spectacular. I never feel that but she totally made me smile! Thank you random lady!
