The arrest and intention to deport Mahmoud Khalil, a lawful permanent US resident, chills me to the bone. Canada is elbows up about tariffs and colonial sovereignty while continuing to materially support intensifying g-cide of Palestinians. We can’t remain silent, it will (and does) happen here.
I booked a @viarailcanada.bsky.social train from Toronto to Kingston today for a professional trip. A moderately late arrival wouldn’t have impacted my meeting much, but the train was over an hour late. A 50% credit towards a future trip I have no expectation of repeating isn’t very helpful, VIA.

Profile of a bearded Black man with red beanie and in-ear monitor hiding a mic and reading text from a music stand with lights. In the background is a large video screen showing someone lying in bed in the daytime.
Profile of two Black musicians in purple light, the nearer one in glasses, earphones, and a short sleeve shirt playing a grand piano with his right hand, the far one out of focus and playing a tenor saxophone. In the background is a large video screen showing a road, tree and horizon at sundown.

Photo of a stage in purple light, surrounded by a circle of chairs. It is a rehearsal with four Black male performers, a speaker with a mic on the left, a saxophone player at centre rear, a guitarist with an amplifier at centre front, and a pianist on the right. They are seated on stools, except for the pianist who is standing behind a grand piano. In the background is a large video screen showing an image of the speaker in closeup.
In Jan 2025 at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, NYC I was composer & music director in LOSS, a multimedia, intergenerational story by Ian Kamau, with tenor sax Dennis Passley and guitar Dyheim Stewart. The Theatre Centre produced for Under the Radar festival 📷 @mimnagh.ca lighting design by Shawn Henry
This sequel shoulda gone straight to laserdisc.
I look froward.
quarter-century rise, fall
From January 9-11, 2025, I'll make my US debut as a composer, music director, and performing keyboardist as part of the multimedia show LOSS at the Apollo Theater for Under the Radar Festival. Grateful for the opportunity to support an important artistic contribution.

Out now: an in-depth interview I did in August for New Music Edmonton’s podcast The No Normal. Grateful for the chance to expand on where I’m at, four years into this chapter, the rebirth.
*Thinks about exciting NYC gig in Jan*
*Reads news*
*Combs drawer for any US cash*

Hey Bluesky, this is my first flutter / fleet / flext / flog whatever. I’m a Toronto / Tkaronto / Tronno-based modern classical composer, arts/worker, father and lover. Joined to find an alternative to Threads, something functional like 2010s Twitter (pfft). Less in, more out #Toronto #music #arts
