#MorbidMarch

Oh, tricky, I'll go with those that come to mind immediately.

Mae Murray (whose debut I'm sorry If I Scared You impressed me deeply)
@tcparker.bsky.social (check out Trad Wife, amongst other terrific books)
@tananarivedue.bsky.social (Still can't get The Reformatory out of my head)

Thank you!

(Also, I have only just discovered Morbid March is a thing - much inspiration here for Bat marketing campaigns 🀣)

You're in a starter pack of LLM-free news sources! (And honestly, I was delighted to see a UK provider turn up :) )

It’s #FridayReads time! Let’s share books and boost all signals. Almost done with the novel, so I’m thinking/hoping/dreaming about my next contract. Know what helps? Selling books! Seriously. Anyway, it’s almost half off! Go ahead, share what you love.

Thanks Gabino!

I'm especially mad about the horrors of white Christian Nationalism today, so would love it if more people read Tradwife and got (constructively) angry with me

(*possibly I mean "destructively," but why split hairs...?)

It was a mistake to look at her LinkedIn posts; I see that now

Though can confirm, having looked, that she's pro "exposure therapy, distress tolerance [and] desensitisation" for autistic people

So imagine it's a hard Yes on the ABA

Though the willingness to subject kids to conversion practices tallies nicely with the new-look transphobia, so I probably shouldn't be as surprised as I am

I was honestly *fizzing* with joy the whole way through the tour! Not sure if he'll end up there - we've got a few more to look at, and he's doing brilliantly in mainstream with a TA right now, so it's more looking ahead to secondary - but it's made me want to go and work in SEN :)

"I'm sure it's totally fine for me to make this sweeping, inaccurate generalisation about a demographic known for its propensity to seek out evidence, read closely & conduct detailed self-directed investigation into specialist topics...

No issues there, that I can foresee"

Counterpoint:

I went to look round a neuroaffirming school for my youngest yesterday, and the ethos, curriculum design, staff and layout were so lovely I wanted to cry

We should all have been so lucky to have an education like that 30 or 40 years ago

I'm going to say... forthcoming book to promote

Possible collaboration with Lewis and/or Stock re: Our Children's Future?

Not a shock to anyone I know on here, I suspect, but yet more evidence of transphobia and neuronormativity being very happy bedfellows...

Scratch a TERF, scratch a public figure "concerned" about diagnosis rates... and a hundred other ugly, baseless bigotries come crawling to the surface

AI is not inevitable. Nothing in human societies is inevitable because we design them. Healthcare can be free for the public. Books can be bought instead of bombs. Universities can be free for students, and they can even receive a stipend to live off. Don't let companies dictate the future.

Gallery of Karen Millen models wearing a selection of Stormtrooper-esque trench coats

The selection gets more dystopian, the longer you look at it

The selection gets steadily more dystopian as you browse the catalogue, too

Press Association comment from Quakers in Britain

This evening, for the second time in a year, the Metropolitan Police raided a Quaker Meeting House and arrested a number of young nonviolent activists who were meeting there on the grounds that they were conspiring to commit a criminal act.

The room in Westminster Quaker Meeting House was let to Take Back Power to hold nonviolent direct action training. Quakers support the principle of nonviolent direct action, which aims to protest without harming people.

Oliver Robertson, head of witness and worship for Quakers in Britain, said:

β€œFor Quakers, faith and action are inseparable. Peaceful protest, prayer and nonviolent action are integral parts of many Quakers' religious life.
β€œWhilst we take the planning of criminal acts very seriously, we believe that this incident is a deliberate targeting of committed young people who want to make our country a more equitable place. This raid is part of a systematic stifling of dissent.

β€œThat this is the second time in a year that the police have raided our meeting house dramatically illuminates the broader trend in the UK of cracking down on those who disagree with the government. The right to protest is fundamental to our democracy. It's a key part of how people make their voices heard between elections.”

Statement from @quaker.org.uk about tonight's police raid on Westminster Meeting House. Guys, I don't think they're buying the Met's line about it all being a cover for plotting "mass shoplifting"

Came here to say this

Who are "lanyard" people? Nurses? LSA/TAs? Groundskeepers?

A whole lot of people in non-"managerial" roles wear them

Whereas I, a person who works at a laptop, mostly on my sofa, have never used one for work purposes in my life

Shauna described my last, Jaws-inspired effort as "weak." So it may be that there is more learning still to do :)

There are no "good" LLM-mongers, in the same way there are no really trustworthy blokes looking to sell you knock-off cigarettes out the back of a lorry

The blokes are always dodgy. The cigarettes may or may not poison you, depending on the day
