Canadian publishers are deeply disappointed by Nova Scotia's cancellation of the Publishers Assistance program. Support for local publishers has been reduced from $700,000 to $0, making NS the only province that does not invest in its own publishers. @nsgov.bsky.social publishers.ca/nova-scotia-...
These cuts set a dangerous precedent for independent book publishing in Canada
I just noticed that @secondstory.bsky.social Second Story Press has a new logoβwhich I never noticed when it was announced last yearβso Iβm giving a little love to this amazing #Canadian publisher. canlitforlittlecanadians.blogspot.com/2026/02/seco...
In light of the proposed cuts to the Nova Scotia arts sector, we are requesting help from our friends and community. Please take the time to read this piece and help in whatever what you can.

"CROSSING INTO CANADA conscientiously brings into focus previously unknown stories about war resistance, and helpfully juxtaposes stories from the 1960s and 1970s with those from much more recent conflicts.β Jessica Squires, Building Sanctuary

The Drowned Man's Daughter is a fine book: rich, dark, intense, sneaky, secretly literary. On first reading I was simply lost in the strange and complex world of Naia and her cohort of generational slow-apocalypse survivors. As I read, I also wondered: does every generation of writers write the apocalypse that they have not earned but their forebears deserve?
Grateful for Candas Jane Dorsey's lovely review of THE DROWNED MAN'S DAUGHTER in Alberta Views: albertaviews.ca/the-drowned-...
CROSSING INTO CANADA complicates our understanding of Canada as a safe place of refuge for war resisters by juxtaposing the stories of resisters from the Vietnam War with stories from resisters of later wars.

You don't necessarily want to use the exact same alt text each time a specific image is used. Alt text must consider the context of the image and why it's being included on a site, post, article, etc. In other words, alt text depends on where you're including the image and why.
We need more reviewers in Canada. I think as poets we should be reviewing a couple of titles a season. Itβs good for the community and itβs good for our own sensibilities and poetry. Itβs hard to justify the work involved, I get it, but ultimately I think itβs a way to give back.
