Every so often I remember that we found in my wife's grandfather's belongings after he died Adlai Stevenson campaign lit. So I knowat least one person who held a, justifiable, grudge against Ike until the day they died.

“Every single democrat condemned it, but they didn’t all use the same phrasing, which is terrible, and also if they had done that I’d be making fun of them for that right now.”

Normally I wouldn't put an account this popular on blast because I'm not suicidal, but this is asinine theater kid criticism made out of a refusal to focus your rage on deserving targets. If you think the real problem with Trump bombing Iran is the Democrats, log off and stay logged off.

you want to here an unpopular take? the iranian regime sucks. the venezuelan regime sucks. THE TRUMP REGIME SUCKS. as liberals we need to dig out heads out of the paper bag and remember what our principles really are

A common refrain from people is unrestrained outrage that smaller numbers are smaller than bigger numbers. The People, in their wisdom, decided to give all power to Republicans and the earliest that can change is November.

The replies and quotes to this are very mad, but it's good actually for the last Democratic President to be giving advice and what not to the up and comers. I wish I could say other retired Democratic Presidents were doing the same.

I suppose the implication in this comparison is that the Jedi have autism. Which may actually explain some things.

Does your kid have midichlorians? That was caused by X thing.

The broader reform has survived. They have attacked it and trimmed it and taken away the mandate and still they cannot deny coverage for pre-existing conditions, the marketplace still exists.

It has actually withstood multiple attempts to dismantle in large part because of its mix of a public/private system. A purely public system could have been DOGED.

They should have handed off the show to Bryan Cogman, the guy who wrote the last good episode of the show A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

My wife hates this movie, but I think it's neat! I don't really understand why the darkness in the first movie goes down easy for people, but people bump up against it in the second movie.

Stardew Valley strives really hard to kind of get close to giving me the same feelings as Harvest Moon 64 did.

This seems to be a common reply to my thread, so I'll address it here. Basically, the argument is who cares if this is a misleading attack on Newsom, he's bad so if it hurts him it's fine.

And I think it's important to push back on misinformation so that when there are legitimate criticisms...

this comparison is going to drive a subset of people insane but this site is essentially Taiwan for the centre-left/left-wing power users of Twitter

If Trump gloats about hockey we have to burn down the White House again that’s the rules

I can’t be certain but I think the last British monarch to imprison a sibling was Edward IV in 1477.

Trump < W < HW < Clinton < Obama < Biden.

One could argue from 2017 to 2019 who was worse, W or Trump, but having lived through both it certainly felt worse under Trump I. Trump definitively became worse than W after Covid started and has been worst all time since January 6, 2021

As a Blue No Matter Absolutist, I would take this under consideration when looking at primaries. I don't live in New York, but my ideal scenario would be AOC replacing Schumer in the Senate.

Kalecki wrote a paper "The Political Economy of Full Employment" arguing that when working class wages go up, the bosses would sabotage the economy to preserve the hierarchy.

Al Smith was the Democratic nominee in 1928 and the anti Catholic sentiment was massive. 1960 had some of that but not as bad.

True, true. And that election was within the lifetime of half of my in-laws. My parents were born during the Kennedy administration.

There are people around today that were alive during the 28 election where the Democratic nominee was accused of dual loyalties because he was Catholic. Not many people, sure, but there are some.
