When I first started w/ social media (in a previous life like 15 years ago I even hosted Tweetups lol) social was a way to give people a sampler of what you do. Now that information curiosity is gone, and the mental "lock in" of the infinite feed, algorithms, and staying in the app is very real.
I know anecdotally it's powerful. A number of times I've met people who follow us on social, but discovered our newsletter and podcast after we met in person by chance. It was "OMG I hadn't heard of any of these things" or even that we did all this *other stuff* that's actually the core.
We still post and stuff, but now it's a +1 when waiting for media to render or something. I've had realizations I'm gonna write up and/or talk about on the show soon, and putting them into action has changed the project for the better.
It's why I put it at top over the election stuff. It's more important. The gap is a chasm.
Reliance on social media as a primary source of info does not help.
Local loses out in the algorithm unless it's sensational w/ national appeal. Part of why we focus on the newsletter instead of social now.
I have been using em dashes for 25+ years. I have had editors remove at times them for semi-colons (which is fine, too), and I've always written like I talk.
I've worked in broadcast TV, podcasting, radio, writing, and online. And yes. Each medium determines how the audience engages. In my case, audio only focuses the mind on what you're saying. I know we *have* to do video (and are) but we're trying to stay as close to format as possible.
As we talked about on our podcast (where there's room to debate more) - I think it probably lands between the Impact Poll (I think that was too low) and this. I'd love to see another sample.
Don't discount that Duggan ads are already up while other candidates are mostly off-air. Name is the game.
More on that and the rest of the results: www.dailydetroit.com/new-poll-mic...
Independent candidate for Michigan governor Mike Duggan has pulled statistically even in the race, says a new poll.
That's in contrast to a recent poll from a Dem-leaning outfit that had him at just 20%.
Michigan voters don't know how far behind we really are, says a new poll. We think we're in the middle of the pack nationally, when really β it's the basement.

Did you know that it's income and gaming taxes that make up the largest share of the City of Detroit's revenue? Property taxes, although high here, don't bring in anywhere as much money.
As it's city and state budget season, we talked with an expert about how it all works and what's ahead for 2026.

Canada paid for the bridge. Trump now wants half.
I put this together from my notes of years of covering this thing locally, going through his grievance list. www.dailydetroit.com/canada-paid-...
A new twist in the bridge saga, as the President is now saying he wonβt allow it to open.
So Canada put up the money for the Gordie Howe Bridge from the U.S. to Canada. I know, Iβve been covering and I just published an interview on this today (before this post).
