"Without the contributions of immigrants, public debt at all levels would already be above 200 percent of US GDPβnearly twice the 2023 level and a threshold some analysts believe would trigger a debt crisis."

πΈ Thousands of families in Oregon are at risk of losing their child care, unless the Oregon legislature steps up and puts more resources into Employment Related Day Care (ERDC).

What Oregonians really need is a plan that puts their economic security and well-being at the top of the agenda, not a plan that lays the groundwork for more failed trickle-down economics #orpol #orleg
Gov. Tina Kotek's goal of getting Oregon on CNBCβs Top 10 States for Business is misguided, commentator Juan Carlos OrdoΓ±ez writes.
The solution to this problem? We must TAX extreme wealth!

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office just issued an analysis that makes it clear: when you add up the tax cuts and the cuts to Medicaid, SNAP and other services, the rich gain, the poor lose.

Oregon lawmakers need to protect and invest in Oregonians. #ProtectOregonNow #orleg
The House tax plan has hit a roadblock for now, but make no mistake about it: it's a huge giveaway to the rich.
Economic inequality is already at extreme levels. The U.S. House tax plan would make it worse
Cuts to Medicaid, as proposed in the current budget plan moving in Congress, will hurt Oregonians in every congressional district. That's especially true for the 2nd Congressional district, covering Eastern and most of Southern Oregon.
Revenue forecast in #orleg is going to be down significantly. Yet, we'll still have billions in revenue we didn't have in the prior budget to invest in working families! This will be spun as a bad forecast, and yeah, it's worse than February due to tariffs, etc. but still an opportunity to invest!
NEW: Under one Republican proposal to expand SNAP's existing work requirement, 6 million adults would be at risk of losing #SNAP.
Almost 11 million people, including 4 million kids, live in households that could lose some amount of food assistance.

Cuts to Medicaid and nutrition assistance to pay for big tax cuts for the rich. The congressional budget plan is a bad deal for the nation
On our 25th Anniversary, we remain committed to the fight for economic justice. As @aqueralr.bsky.social explains, today that fight is protecting Medicaid & SNAP from devastating cuts, advancing tax fairness, increasing worker power, strengthening Oregon's EITC, and more
I interviewed Senator Ron Wyden @wyden.senate.gov for the latest @ocppnews.bsky.social Policy for the People podcast. We talked about the federal budget, taxing the rich, and protecting Medicaid, SNAP, and other programs that support working Oregonians www.buzzsprout.com/1802797/epis...
The House just passed its budget resolution, so reconciliation is now officially underway. This is their bill to destroy Medicaid and SNAP while cutting taxes disproportionately for the rich.
THIS IS VERY REAL and can be enacted even if all Ds vote no.

Letβs be clear: in this budget framework there is no way to cut $1.5 trillion in spending while protecting health coverage through Medicaid and food assistance through SNAP.

I have an idea! Let's raise his taxes and the taxes of all billionaires in the USA. That would help.
The House Republican budget released today by Budget Committee Chair Jodey Arrington is an extreme giveaway to the wealthy at the expense of families who already have a hard time making ends meet.
With House Republicans still negotiating a budget plan that is likely to include deeply harmful proposals, Senate Republicans today released a much narrower plan, which is both opaque and troubling.
A new $1.8 billion kicker seems headed this way. If it does kick, kicker rebates over the past decade will add up to nearly $12 billion. That's a lot of housing or other investments in the well-being of Oregonians we could have made, but didn't #orpol
We have a problem here in Oregon when it comes to enforcing labor and civil rights laws: the agency responsible for enforcing them is way shorthanded www.ocpp.org/2024/11/14/t...
