There’s a parallel universe in which 80s Who was produced by Fiona Cumming and script edited by Barbara Clegg….i hear it’s a great place to live.

An initially interesting young talent, but any enigmatic aura has now been obliterated by SNL, podcasts, red carpets, rolling interviews, til the point reached is the dispiriting realisation of an utterly vapid brand.

Charitably, this is massively naive, if you have an ounce of media awareness about how the BBC editorialises & neutralises its content to support existing power structures. But it’s Toynbee, so she knows this & it works for her, so….

And only did it twice on screen, but many people would be forgiven for believing he did a run of them, à la Lee.

a man says i 've actually been writing a novel in front of a woman ALT: a man says i 've actually been writing a novel in front of a woman

I wrote a novel a while back. I need to tweak it. I started a 2nd today. I’ve no compulsion/energy to try a sell it (it’s not commercial, or good enough, & I don’t mingle in the right circles). However, writing in itself is joyous. I’ll probably make them freebies for anyone interested before long.

Yeah, Spearhead, Carnival, Axos, Day of the Daleks & Mutants for me (plus real fascination with Dinosaurs, for sure). I’m divided on S7, as it’s a technically pretty impressive version of a kind of Who that leaves me a tad cold, but I can’t knock what it does well. 👍

Thinking of the major ones - 63-89 & 05-24.

But yeah, a shoe that’s simultaneously one thing, two things and about 18 things 😂

Doctor Who, in both its iterations. Even shows with the capacity to overhaul/regenerate to the extent of that one still end up obeying the pattern of long-running shows in general: namely, ‘rise…imperial-phase…known-quantity that fatigues the audience…possible repeated screw-ups…slow death’

Name the queerest character that isn't canonically queer.

I could say Tomorrow Never Knows or Rain or Come Together…but is there anything as winning as She Loves You..? A song you could belt out in a playground, have a teen rebellion to, or that would charm grandparents at a wedding disco.

And which keeps yielding up - - I heard Man Who Sold the Wprld last autumn, after years. ‘Why have I neglected this?!!’ I kept thinking hahaha

Oh, & Andrew referencing Kinks ‘Village’ - I played that about half-a-dozen times last summer 🤣

Even as Station/Low/“Heroes”/Outside/Earthling/Blackstar guy, I’m always surprised by how joyous Ziggy is when I go back to it. I sorta forget it’s amazing... Dogs too… But I like that ! - I have my core Bowie albums, plus surprises!

When I was doing ‘Who convention appearances to promote Second Dr audios/being Ben Jackson, this fella was an absolute gem. Really hit it off with him. Sorry to hear of his passing but, wow, great innings.

I think Labyrinth was the canniest move a rock star drifting towards middle-age, with his most acclaimed/commercially successful material behind him, could do. Guaranteed those single-digit aged kids were gonna grow up loving that film, knowing those songs & doing that look at fancy dress parties.🥳

Good time to brush up on the history of Romanovs, Hapsburgs and Hohenzollerns…where it led, etc. History loves a rhyming couplet.
