What’s the most helpful thing you’ve learned about ADHD?
For me, it’s about motivation.
Neurotypicals are (primarily) motivated by:
• importance
• rewards
• consequences
ADHDers are (primarily) motivated by:
• interest
• creativity/novelty
• challenge
• urgency
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Machine.
I walk up to a kiosk labeled "Brain Services" Me: Hello, I need some motivation to get work done. Brain: Let me see what I've got. Hmm. I've got an opening for staring at your phone for 6-12 hours. Me: Oh, I don't want that. If there's no work, can I at least get something fun? Brain: Sorry, best I can do is shitposting for 6 hours followed by doomscrolling for the rest of the day.
Is there someone else I could talk to?

"Flow activities have far-reaching consequences for autistic wellbeing and should be encouraged, rather than prevented, when designing supportive environments"

Me years ago: How do people not know the vhs tape in the box is not rewound purely by weight distribution.
Me years later: I think I'm autistic.
Just learned about Justice Sensitivity in ADHD and I definitely think I have it 🙃 www.additudemag.com/why-am-i-so-...
Autistic sensory sensitivities are usually more than 'just being uncomfortable.' Sensory issues, such as loud noises, can be physically painful, can trigger automatic behavioural responses, can impact executive function, and/or have serious emotional impacts.

Artwork and friend connection sounds more fun! Can I see the photo?
Fell down a memory rabbit hole last night recalling clapping games I played with my friends in primary: Stella Ella Ola, Miss Susie had a Steamboat, Down by the Rollercoaster... I wonder if kids still play those? 🤔👵
Same here! I've got a notification for a parcel arriving today and it'll be a surprise. I sometimes wonder if it's a cognitive workaround to give me more surprises and more dopamine 😁

Oh yes! Quiet, shy girl to adult autism diagnosis pipeline.
On one of my courses, people used to get upset with the quiet people, saying we were withholding. Truth was a lot felt too redundant to say out loud, and I'd get overwhelmed and lose my words when all the eyes were on me. I prefer observing
