I read articles about cities that go carless, and they look so inviting. Insteads of zillions of acres of pavement and parking lots, they have shops and people and cafes and bicycles and greenery.

That is absurd.

Vehicle traffic ruins everything. Sidewalk cafe? So fun trying to talk over traffic noise. Jogging? Inhale those hydrocarbons faster. Everyone, drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, have to be perfect all the time and not make a mistake, because a single moment of distraction can be fatal.

IMO you're too hard on drivers. City traffic requires attention to everything at once. Vehicles and humans should not share the same streets. You can be the best driver in the world and still not be able to avoid hitting someone who darts in front of you.
