Gary Owen’s unforgettable ‘Iphigenia in Splott’ is released as a Student Edition this month from @methuendrama.bsky.social, with a fascinating intro by @lucycmmjackson.bsky.social. It’s extra special to have this play - a blistering aria against austerity on a mythic scale - as part of the series.
If you're in Los Angeles, get thee to the Troubies at the Getty!
If I could move any group to Broadway, it would be a Troubie show.

Now up on the CRSN site! Antonio Papapicco and Valeria Spacciante - the organisers of the CRSN/ICS 2025 Summer Series - reflect on the theme of ancient violence and its reception in the modern world. Read more here:

I am enjoying watching ‘Too Much’, but I do just keep thinking wistfully of ‘I May Destroy You’.
He locked. Her out. When she went. To get. Pizza.
THAT’S how you do it.
Just want three or four other ways of saying ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’, is that too much to ask…?
“I asked Chat GPT” “I asked Grok”
Ok well I asked Sappho and she said

When people say “You’re not tired, you’re just dehydrated” it makes me want to decapitate them with a Barbie doll. I can be both, fool. I contain multitudes.
Marking is still going well, clearly.
Andor is great and I don’t mind a bit all the Andor content being pushed to me on Facebook. They really had the ma(a)rvellous Fiona Shaw saying ‘Fuck the Empire’ and it’s not everything but it’s not nothing
Why do packing cubes, and the people who advertise them, have such a hold on me?
Already.
We’re at the Mahler 9 stage of marking season
This is happening in the UK, not the US.
Fascism, misogyny & the desire to control women’s bodies is on the rise everywhere.
Stop using period tracker apps. Consider a permanent form of birth control if you’re sure you don’t want kids. Be discrete with your reproductive health.

The Durham UCU picket line outside of Bill Bryson library
Day four! Striking for our jobs! We are not a drain on the university! We ARE the university!

FAB to stand with dedicated picketers today on Day 3 of our local branch STRIKE! Best of all was the support (honk honk!) from the Durham town community. This callous threat of forced redundancies by Management impacts our whole community - brothers and aunts, sisters and sons, colleagues and pals!
Day two of the strike, and we've ben getting a lot of questions from students about the action. What's it for, why are we doing it now, and how can they help.
So let's run through some Strike Questions! 🧵
Great turnout today on @ducu.bsky.social pickets. On strike to protect professional services staff jobs.
An attack on one is an attack on all!
Management tried to pit academics against professional services staff - they've failed!
We are *all* the university!
New picket day, new sign. As cuts go up, services go down. Upset by the cut in library hours? Just you wait until cuts take effect!
Anise pine nut cookies ready to go for the morning!

Job cuts are a choice, not a necessity.
@ducu.bsky.social is on strike today to protect our colleagues and our university.
@ducu.bsky.social Starting our STRIKE action today to defend the jobs of colleagues. We’ll all suffer with forced redundancies - a better solution has to be found. Would prefer to be revising aorist participles with my brilliant students. Digital picket line here #LoveOurPSStaff
Anyway anyone looking for a career change on TERF island should probably consider plumbing or construction. Lots of toilets and changing rooms that need to be built because our government is either too complicit or stupid to counteract truly batshit interpretations of the law. 👷👷♀️👷♂️
