Milo standing on the ground, while a boy of similar height hovers above him

"Isn't it beautiful?" gasped Milo.

"Oh, I don't know," answered a strange voice. "It's all in the way you look at things."

"I beg your pardon?" said Milo, for he didn't see who had spoken.

"I said it's all in how you look at things," repeated the voice.

This is true. Plus it’s tasty, so that helps reduce stress, I’d imagine.

This is the start of a new work in progress thread.

It will not be a creature of mine this time, but one from @slimyswampghost.bsky.social bestiary 😁

I'm so excited about this project !

Students came to me with good theoretical knowledge, including working through hypotheticals. AI contributes nothing that wasn’t already there.

Those same students were thrown a bit when real cases with real people didn’t unfold as easily as hypotheticals. AI contributes nothing here.

As someone who’s trained interns & clinical fellows, I don’t care what you put out there to β€œmirror real professional work” β€”nothing mirrors real professional work as well as real professional work (with support).

Especially in professions involving work with people.

I work in state government and the exec team says this incessantly.

We have to be using AI because it’s inevitable. We have to use it or we’ll fall behind.

Fall behind what? We’re state government. We could be using pencil and paper and still exist.

I remember writing a grant for a student of mine to get access to medical services during school closures that the parents didn’t know were available. It was approved. Would AI do that?

Part of LLMs, etc. being unleashed on everything feels like a way to engage in more gatekeeping put like that. πŸ€”

I’m old enough to remember working online during school closures when many people insisted they didn’t have the expertise to do what a teacher does.

Fast forward to now, when apparently it’s not that complicated & anyone can do it with the assistance of edtech that isn’t required to be accurate.

There is such an easy route that Uni's are failing to take. Lead with culture change. Stop spamming us about the new software and partnerships. Stop the endless workshops in the teaching and learning centers. Start talking about what learning is and when these products help or hurt this process.

β€œPerhaps you might allow Rhyme and Reason to return,” said Milo softly.

β€œHow nice that would be,” said Azaz, straightening up and adjusting his crown. β€œEven if they were a bother at times, things always went so well when they were here.”

Daylight Savings is actually totally anodyne. The reason it's so objectionable is because twice a year we get reminded that our social form would rather mess with our sleep than shift work hours so that we could have both the sleep and sunlight after working hours.

I am quite suspicious of the popularity of post-data multiverse analysis. If we can have all those specifications identified, why not run corresponding simulations ahead of data collection to pressure-test the experimental design & analytical procedures so we can perform the most informative study?

Happy #WorldBookDay2026. The French writer and philosopher Voltaire once said 'Let us read, and let us dance; these two amusements will never do any harm to the world.' πŸ“š

He also drank up to 50 cups of coffee a day, often mixed with chocolate.

I think we're onboard with this.

One of mine was a bigamist, possibly a trigamist (it was never clear whether he & his first wife divorced). My father has a half sister about the same age. Back then, you did the honorable thing if you got a girl (or two) pregnant …
