Our 3rd grade students loved making origami dog reading buddies. Their teacher shared that they were excited to show them to her (this is typically a hard class to engage) 🐶❤️📖 our read aloud was Yuna’s Cardboard Castles (A Virginia Readers’ Choice book).

A8 #TKSkyChat new books in a series has really sparked interest this year - I feel like there have been a lot. It has gotten a lot of the younger kids excited about the series.

A7 #TLSkyChat I like the idea of pairing the book w a music vibe. I’ve never done that, but I’m going to give it a try. I usually book talk by the theme of the lesson. I’ve been book talking Coretta Scott King Award Books this month.

A6 #TLSkyChat I haven’t been very creative. Our students do love the scholastic book trailers. I do post on our library page coming soon books. Students are able to post in a discussion & that is usually pretty popular among our 4th-6th graders.

A5 #TLSkyChat Missing the part that will hook kids. I sometimes realized that the students are most interested in something I wasn’t highlighting in my first book talks.

A4 # Pop culture works for me. The kids are always surprised when I know about pop culture. Pusheen is popular at our school so we’re doing a Meow Madness book battle this march.

Yes! Making a connection is key. Usually if one student is interested other student will also become interested - especially when they see the book on their classroom. I’ve had classes obsessed w one book.

Funny books are also an easy sell & fun to book talk.

A3 #TLSkyChat I love book talking spooky and mystery books. It is so fun to set the spooky tone. These are also a favorite of our students so they are usually an easy sell.

Ha! Same. There is a series our students love. I read the first few chapters so I could see what the book was like but that was more than enough.

A2 #TlSkyChat I have a really hard time w books/authors I don’t enjoy. I try to find book talks from other people or the author to show the students. This happens mostly when I’m book talking some of our state books (Virginia Reader’s Choice selections).

I like this idea a lot. I’ll have to double check our new books to see what we have.
