FWIW Mary Chapin Carpenter's take on Lucinda Williams' Passionate Kisses was the highlight of my day when it came on the K-Mart radio network when I worked there as a stock boy.

We have a little washer/dryer combo thing in our apartment and that thing is loud af. I never run it past 10pm or so.
Have long wanted to start a thrash/hc/poweviolence band with the name Volcker Shock
Not sure if listening to the Xiu Xiu cover will help or hurt with that... at least you won't randomly hear it at Rite Aid.
After a bunch of assholes made money insider trading on the timing of the war, a different group of assholes could be making money for posting lies about the war
They can't even bother to lie to us anymore.
we reached the βno WMDsβ phase in two days.
The old iron law of institutions - "The people who control institutions care first and foremost about their power within the institution rather than the power of the institution itself."
NEW: Guards have taken away crayons, colored pencils & paper during recent room searches at Dilley, according to detainees and others. After one inspection, the children just βcried and cried and cried,β a mother said. The facility denies the claims.

There are no normies. The entire polity is internet poisoned or in a state of senescence with cable tv blaring at them in the background.
donβt make me tap the sign
Sort of gives away the lie that they're arresting hardened criminals who are drags on society when they're setting up traps to lure in Good Samaritans
www.limitedtooneshop.com That would be a steal if you walked into this place...
It's really the juxtaposition of "You can't make me kill, man" with "You can't make me kill a man" that is the stroke of pure genius.
You can't make me kill, man
You can't make me kill a man
You can't make me kill and
I won't fight your stupid war

Sometimes the vegan fake ham you randomly buy at the co-op just hits... and sometimes it really just doesn't.
I know nothing about SI and can't relate to anything you just said...
Sometimes I just step back and remember that if you think of the US state as a homeowners association that facilitates multi-level marketing schemes with a huge military you can generally explain a lot of what happens.
Deepest condolences. As a colleague I always valued her writing and commentary. What a loss.
MAGA's "People's Capitalism" open.substack.com/pub/johnganz... "What if we did military Keynesianism but with the 'military' part directed at internal enemies and the 'Keynesian' part as blatant graft without any of the broader economic growth?"
One of the kids started watching hockey again and I am struck by how every hockey coach gives cop. Is it just that they are a meathead in suit and tie? Is there something else I'm missing?
Something I've been trying to impart on people is that the ICE occupation in Minnesota is both an ethnic cleansing and an ideological terror campaign. It's clear that the second part has utterly failed; the community is not terrified. But ICE is now desperately trying to salvage the first part.
"The kind of man who wants to racially segregate a My Chemical Romance concert" lives in my head rent free now
Minnesota is on the eve of a general strike in rejection of ICE. Hundreds of businesses are closing and 80+ solidarity actions are being held across the country. @whitneycwimbish.bsky.social talked to some of the strikers.

I've never felt more like an old American man than when doing a non-NYT crossword in a local paper while listening to the first game in a early July doubleheader on AM radio.
Here is another org that can desperately use your help. If a non-citizen get kidnapped by ICE here, regardless of status, they are flying them out of the state as soon as the can. Legal representation can be the difference between seeing your family again, or, given conditions in TX, life and death.
If you have connections to Minneapolis this is what people say.
I really want ppl w/o Minneapolis connections to understand
You might've heard that Mpls public schools went hybrid bc so many families are in hiding. Well, a coworker just told me that today, during his kid's hybrid class, a kid's apt building was raided onscreen
