The Sibley Prairie is one of the last remnants of lake plain prairie in SE Michigan. it's kind of a miracle that it still exists. Many conservation groups have come together in an effort to preserve it. I have donated, and hope that, if you can, you will too.

Happy Birthday, Chicago!
Chicago adopted its motto β€œUrbs in Horto” (β€œCity in a Garden”) in the 1830s to express both a geographical reality and a civic aspiration. 1/4

Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death The capital city is Finnish’ed with car-related fatalities.

β€œHelsinki hasn’t registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past year…Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a car’s speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinki’s residential areas and city center in 2021.”

In my Teaching in Higher Ed class, the students reported out after interviewing a faculty mentor about how they make certain pedagogy decisions. Some students said their mentor hadn't heard of some of the techniques we discussed in my class so the students shared their materials 😭

Nearly a year ago, Zohran Mamdani confronted Trump β€œborder czar” Tom Homan after ICE took Mahmoud Khalil.

Republicans targeted pro-Palestine students. Then, with no firm pushback, expanded their operations to what we see today.

Mamdani was among the few Democrats who immediately stood against it.

It is so important to keep hammering in this point. People always ask me why I would have to go visit archives - why not just look at a scan? Because they haven’t been scanned! And they are never going to be! There are millions & millions of pieces of paper in every archive.
