Baltimore is on everyone's radar as productions and shows leave D.C. and we love it. But we want to remain us, OK! Thanks @lauralippman.bsky.social for the cheerleading!

Wall graffiti depicting a cartoon African American fist holding a lightning bolt with the caption, "Brown Boy Down For the Revolution!!"
Baltimore art does it different.
Student's seriously get riled up when you teach critical university studies. Would recommend. Start basic--literally explain faculty organization and that most of their professors live below the poverty line. They go wild, as we all should.
Solidarity to the NYU faculty members as they prepare to strike.
University leadership must offer a deal that meets the moment: Stronger job security, higher wages, and academic freedom protections.
NYU, it’s time to give CFU-UAW a fair contract and also pay your RAs!
200 people. The world’s twin super villains have already killed 200 people in Iran.
If the new technology is as dangerous as its makers say, great power competition becomes suicidally reckless. Only international cooperation can ensure AI serves humanity instead of worsening war.

The utterance of "A.I.'s inevitability" is one of the most stark pure performatives I've seen in my time working in higher ed. Every time it is uttered, it is clearly not reporting a fact about the world but instead actively trying to create the reality it narrates. We can and must refuse.

Tenure has never been a measure of merit, it is a carceral logic used to discipline and control.
Sending lots of solidarity your way.
How and why police actually support the federal invasions—I have been working on this article for ~6 months, trying to make sense of Trump’s nationwide surge of DHS officers, how it has evolved, what brought us here, and what will remain after it ends.
Yes yes yes this thread! I and I DO think it’s our jobs to give them the language to articulate against the surveillance state, neoliberalism, nationalism, etc. How to communicate about mundane and insidious forms of power that goes beyond “racism is bad.”
I don't think it is only our job to teach students how to read long novels; it may also be our jobs to teach them how to live without an online surveillance state. To learn without intrusive apps. To swap notes. To write in a book's margins. To exist in their communities in slow, clunky, human ways.
I don’t really know what I expect in posting this, but maybe some people see it and can learn from it.
I’ll call it “lessons from an unwilling immigration attorney.”

Thousands of academics and campus administrators across the country are hard at work trying to discover a new type of Academic Freedom that can protect visits to pedophile island, but not criticism of Israel.
Notice how the popular media narrative has moved on, while people on the ground in Minneapolis are still struggling and crying out that things are as bad as ever. This is how fascist regimes operate — overreach, recalibration, normalization. Get louder, not quieter.
Oh so according to Variety, now he *doesn’t* like violent threats and stalking behavior. Got it got it got it.
Mmm love a good unexpected barrier to medicine on a Thursday.
Another reminder of how bleak it all is rn.
What a useful resource for organizing.
ICE thanks you for your cooperation, flyer on utility pole with photo of an Amazon ring camera and information about how Amazon partners with ICE to share all data on those cameras
We already knew those Amazon ring cameras (and all the other versions of home surveillance cameras) were evil, but now we know they are even more evil... Abolish ICE, abolish Amazon, abolish surveillance, abolition now. 💥
I love that all flavors of political left are doing Ice Watch. Including “wine moms”. But I don’t like being scolded for wanting everyone to use good op sec, or operational security. Here are some pointers in case they’re useful: 1) don’t livestream when you’re patrolling or observing.
If you were like me today, not much got done and spirits were low swimming the dark cold ocean of existential dread. And if you were like me, it’s ok. You did your best. Try again tomorrow.
People marching through a downtown street
Another shot of the march, a sign reading “fuck ice” on a yellow saltbox is visible
*At least* a thousand people, probably more, out in the streets today protesting against the ICE detention center in downtown Baltimore
It’s abolish ice which means abolish the police which means free Palestine.
Did like 50+ circles of the action today and terrorizes citizens all over the city.
Baltimore if you’re interested in what your tax dollars are up today that isn’t the removal of a foot of ice from our fucking sidewalks and bike paths, it’s Foxtrot flying low right circles over a bunch of people exercising our constitutional rights.
It’s so embarrassing to have to admit I graduated from the same uni in the same year as Colton Underwood.
Get this stalker off my television.
I am telling you right now that all my classes this term are teaching students multiple ways a) to understand the contemporary nexus of fascist power (e.g. white supremacy, anti-Blackness, xenophobia, transphobia) and b) to get organized.
I sincerely feel it is the only ethical choice.
From Minneapolis to Baltimore, anti-ICE protests explode

It’s almost like refusing to name white nationalism in schools forever has absolutely gotten us to this point. Because that’s how power works.
