I once had a student write that the character in her story was “whaling” instead of wailing and boy howdy did that change the meaning.

Minnesota is my home and my heart, and I love my people. There are many ways to support them right now, but here is one I hope you will consider. My SIL Sara is an early childhood admin in Robbinsdale, and helped organize this support for her families. givebutter.com/rdaleearlyle...
If you can, ask someone who knows you and has been at the meeting before to wander around with you in the book hall for an hour or so and introduce you to people they know. It may only be two or three people, but being introduced by name to colleagues can be huge for feeling like you belong.
Also relevant for specific populations: there are lactation rooms at the conference center and on-site childcare (at additional cost, must be reserved ahead of time).
I will ooh and aah over your babies!
Absolutely fantastic keynote from @sarosecav.bsky.social this morning at our sixth annual Pima Online Educators Conference. Thank you for helping us find the joy!!!
A sign reading "No Kings Just Prince"
The most Minnesotan protest sign. #NoKings
AND IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!
I am just the luckiest EVER. ❤️🌶️
WE DID IT! Look for this, coming soon!!!!!
So proud of this incredible person! (And so excited to taste all the homework!) Watch out for Chef Schnieder, PhD!
Sorry about my flip flops, everyone.
A workbook page for practicing writing. The prompt line is followed by an empty line for the student write the same sentence over again on their own. On the final two lines, the prompt line is followed by”This is fun to do.” But I wrote “This is NOT fun to do” below it because you can not tell nine year old Jessica what to do, workbook page!
My aunt sent this to me, apparently from an old coloring book she had that I used when I was nine. Look at that last line. I’ve been educationally ungovernable since 1982.
Just a heads up: Was in Tucson Immigration court. My clients had followed the proper procedures to enter the U.S. when they arrived and requested asylum. ICE attorney attempted to get my client's asylum claims terminated, like we saw in multiple immigration courts around the country last week. 1/4

This is eye-opening and absolutely horrifying. We can choose differently, though. We really, really can. This future is not inevitable. www.technologyreview.com/2025/05/20/1...
The best teaching change I’ve made recently is ending the semester with time for gratitude. I share what I am grateful for from our time & they share what they appreciate about each other as colleagues in the course. It’s joy. I will never go back to exams or turning in papers as a last class again.
If I hear one more higher ed “innovator” (who is clearly not from a farming background) use the word “incubator,” I am going to 1) scream and 2) send them hundreds of pictures of what poultry incubators look like during hatching. Trust me, this is not the vibe you want. Thank you for your attention.

We hope to raise the voices, expertise, and goals of CTC developers, and to ensure that POD recognizes and values our work in day-to-day decision-making, planning, and governance. But we need your help! 2/3

The full quote from RFK, Jr. is truly disgusting and this is 100% him calling for institutionalization of autistic people. This is horrifying.
It was Esther day in my virtual Intro to OT class. I love that day, because I wear my tiara and (usually) students make tons of noise. Sadly, I learned this year that Zoom cancels the sound of all but the most robust noisemakers, so one busy student had to blot out the name of Haman for us all :-)
There is no ethical use of GenAI tools. They are extractive—of the environment, of human labor, of the friction that characterizes human learning. AI takes—it does not give. It’s based on a compromised ethical framework. It’s no surprise it’s being used by those who are dismantling our government.
I’m not at all saying that you’re wrong about how PD should work — we should definitely be doing the things you recommend w/our instructors. I’m simply saying that our students would also benefit from more agency, autonomy, relevance, and feedback, because that is how learning happens for everyone.
I would argue that what you are describing in this piece is simply how learning works, regardless of age. We have ample evidence that everyone experiences deeper learning when they have access to meaningful, goal-driven, relevant, autonomous, and iterative instruction — whether age 2 or 72.

Huge congrats to @writandrhet.bsky.social , winner of Pima College’s Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award! I can’t think of anyone more deserving. You really are the best teacher I know.
Investing in students isn't buying expensive third party AI add-ons for the LMS. It's hiring more faculty and staff so we can lower class sizes and devote more individual time to our students.
College is education and WE are the educators.

Also, this balloon vehicle is me.
After #POD24, I'm really curious about this: to those who are active users of AI and, particularly, those who are promoting AI in the classroom, how are you accounting for the environmental impact of AI? Shouldn't we address the harms before we widely embrace this in education?
