#Book #review: The Owl, the Duck and β Miss Rowe! Miss Rowe! by #JohnCowperPowys #ccbookreviews wordsandpeace.com/2026/02/27/b...
MY VERDICT:
A startlingly modern 1930 short-story. Funny, strange, and quietly profound. Yes, imagination and kindness can be more powerful than any official system.

#Book #review The Chinese Maze Mysteries by #RovertvanGulik #JudgeDee #ccbookreviews #theclassicsclub
MY VERDICT:
A #historicalmystery set in 7th century #China. Deeply researched, brilliantly plotted, and utterly unlike anything else. As good as the genre gets.

2/2 Using lime is so deciving as most if not all readers would think of the lime fruit.
Linden is a common word in the US, many cities named with it, and many streets as well - because of the linden trees on it.
I hope you can see/smell one in bloom. Quite an experience
1/2 Thanks Lory.
I do see now for TILLEUL (by the way, to e before the final l - euel is not a French ending):
"The species are known as linden or lime for the European and Asian species, and linden or basswood for North American species."
I had forgotten that after the famous passage on la #madeleine, #Proust had this beautiful description of #linden / #tilleul (not lime as the old English translation has!!)
