I was reading the Raft consensus algorithm paper and tried implementing it on the side. I think this is a great exercise while reading papers -- implement the proposed solution.

Especially in India, where up-skilling has become crucial to get a job, startups have thrived on the insecurities of users.
An ideal “edtech” looks like Khan Academy. I grew up watching Sal’s videos and I would genuinely pay for them. Education startups must be non-profits at the core.
I worked at an “edtech” company before and at the engineering level our drive was mostly that we are making education accessible to everyone. It was indeed motivating! But it was a for-profit business in the end. Many others have gone far beyond ethical boundaries of sales to achieve growth.
Education is one of those select entities that should never be monetised. A person seeking knowledge should pay only if they deem the value worth the cost and hence should not feel compelled to pay to learn.
The moment you try to drive profits from education, you start running a business.
Randomly chose to resume this one on a long flight and could not keep it down! The writing beautifully puts forth the struggle of ambitious pursuit of scientific discovery and how a bunch of super talented individuals have lost their minds at the edge of this pursuit. Loved the writing style!
