I don't work much with physical ink anymore, but that used to be my medium of choice. One of my favorite ink pieces is this tree, and not just because it took forever!

Treasure Map! This was one of my favorite concepts from an Inktober a few years ago. I had to color it, it's just too good.

While I don't really enjoy horror movies, and I'm definitely not good at writing them, I seem to have a gift for monster/horror art.

The industrial revolution destroyed a massive number of jobs, but made prices lower and led to things like unions. I suspect we'll see similar long term impacts, if not fundamental change.
We just ended up with more free time as a society. Humans have more leisure time today than ever before in history.
On the far side of AGI (which might already be here) we will just have more. The basics of civilization won't change, even though the short term labor dislocation is painful.
Capitalism works because it relies only basic human behavior (self interest), and creates aggregate value. I don't see that changing.
My point about those other automations (and the unemployment that followed them) is that the system did not end. Instead...
So we won't have general purpose, intelligent robots anytime soon. We will have specialized models like self driving cars though!
But even self driving cars like Waymo required years and years of driving data. So they won't come quickly.
But we're far from having robotics models as powerful as the language models. The amount of training data we have for language models is huge - all the language ever generated by humans.
To create even a fraction of a fraction of that data for robots would take decades.
It's possible we already have AGI. The difference between what we had and AGi was a general purpose action model, and the coding models like Claude Code do that today. If you haven't already, try Claude Cowork and see - it's a general purpose agent built on the coding systems.
Unfortunately, all of the experiments in UBI have been failures.
AI will replace a lot of forms of human labor, just like washing machines, vacuums, manufacturing machines and electricity. The transition will be painful, just like those were.
