We name them after the greatest 0βs manager Earl Weaver. Known for not taking shit and kicking dirt.

Please take a moment to remember Hall of Famers Stan Musial and Earl Weaver who passed away on this date 13 years ago.
thank you for reading. Earl's memoir is a fun addendum.
The cover of The Last Manager how Earl Weaver tricked, tormented, and reinvented baseball by John Miller.
Finished this audiobook. It was good. I always want more depth but that's a me problem not the book's problem.
An award -- a clear baseball atop a pyramidal base, engraved with the words THE TWIN BILL BASEBALL LIT - 2025 BEST BASEBALL NONFICTION BOOK - FIELD WORK, ANDREW FORBES -- rests on a copy of the book.
I was thrilled to arrive home from our holiday earlier this week to find that this gorgeous thing had arrived from @thetwinbill.bsky.social
I'm grateful! So nice to think of the book reaching some readers who are on its wavelength.
Things I learned today from the book about Earl Weaver: what bench jockeying is and the scene in Bull Durham where Costner fights with the ump is based on Weaver.

The cover of The Last Manager: how Earl Weaver tricked, tormented, and reinvented baseball by John Miller.
My patience has paid off and now I'm listening to a book about the best baseball manager ever: Earl Weaver.
Earl Weaver was the first non-Yankee manager to win three consecutive pennants since the 1930s.
Ha, that's good. That's the book that hooked me. I read it when I was 11 or something in Brussels, and was captivated by the voice. Way more fun and interesting than other sports memoirs I was reading.
That is fun. What did you say in your report??
Happy World Cup year

A delightful look at one of the most important and fun figures in baseball history.

One explanation for Bari killing the story is that she did so as a public act of fealty to the administration. But another is that, as an inexperienced journalist, she doesnβt understand that a refusal to go on the record is a kind of comment in and of itself
The Olivia Nuzzi story and the Bari Weiss at CBS story are the same story, which is that the upper echelons of legacy media are absolutely rife with people who worship power and don't feel burdened by any sense of responsibility to their profession or the public.
I finished this last week and this book is so much fun there should probably be some FDA guidance on how much of it is safe to consume in one 24-hour period
60 Minutes is one of only two documentary-style public affairs programs left on the air. The other is Frontline on PBS, which saw its funding gashed by the Trump admin and Congress. They have a matching donation rn.
