They are one of the most perfect backpacking foods. Great caloric density, don't get pulverized as easily as potato chips. Also one of the most delicious

Mushy dems in NY Assembly ought to take note.

That's what I've heard and it blows.

It's also a huge missed opportunity for the non-subsidized programs. What if the incentive were just that they'd make the process really seamless. Sigh

He really got me with that last point - imagining a future when the state/utility/whatever just helps you get the perfect water heater and sets you up with a contractor who'll just install it without being a dick about it

Just make my life better and make that the easy choice, thank you

Slow Gods by Claire North. The intro chapter is depressing but stick with it, it's worth it

I get a lot of relief out of using a muscle scraper tool and working it along the grain, also along the ITB. Good for breaking up knots and such. Even a decent sized spoon handle will work. (I can't do a deep quad stretch right now, knee reasons)

Self-massage, it works wonders

Can confirm! Just ran across it! Right before one of the plows made another pass.

I did actually wait for the snow to stop falling, at least

Good air quality today, couldn't pass up the chance for a little run

A sewing machine next to a pair of sweatpants in the process of getting their elastic replaced. It all looks janky and there are things I'd do differently next time but the finished project works just fine. There's a nonalcoholic beer on the table too

Yep. The podcast Your Diet Sucks did a good breakdown of it, a while back:

Care for your feet

Treat chafing early

Enjoy the scenery

Get enough sleep

Put as much care into selecting the right sports bra as you put into selecting the right shoes*

Everyone's giving you tree-related recs so here are a couple others:

Ever Green by John Reid and Thomas Lovejoy
The Overstory by Richard Powers

I'm working on a longer list of fiction for ppl who love nature and want to protect it, but in the meantime - what works of fiction have you liked most?

I've found scuba diving to be the most direct and reliable way to see weird little guys doing stuff in the wild.

I'm hoping that future generations still have coral reefs. Trying my best to help keep them around!

I second The Invention of Nature!

Have you read any Robin Wall Kimmerer? The Serviceberry; Braiding Sweetgrass?

Several of John Vaillant's are great but I especially liked The Tiger

On my to-read pile:
An Immense World by Ed Yong
The Language of Climate Politics by Genevieve Guenther

I feel super lucky to have had a high school cross country / track coach who was a cool person who created an inclusive environment where no one took the whole thing too seriously. It could be part of why I became a lifelong runner! If I ever find out where that guy went, I'm gonna thank him

Over here missing my old favorite neighborhood spot, closed last year, that had eclectic idiosyncratic Quebecoise food and a great vibe. Always had super interesting conversations with people eating dinner at the bar. Good weird
