Ideal font size in figures is a bit subjective, but it shouldn't differ too much from the main paper text and certainly should always be readable at normal reading distance in letter size print. The best way to do this is to identify font sizes for titles/labels/etc and re-use code across projects.
I'm reviewing my #acl #nlp paper ARR batch (early! 🤯) and noticing a common issue! Make figures, shapes in figures, and text in figures bigger 🔍! Tip: physically match paper size on monitor and print 🖨️ final copy out. If you can't read in print at arms length, its too small.
