It's not the sole reason for all costs inputs but, obese people have higher risks and associated costs. The system is a risk pool so obese people are going to be subsidized by healthy people. This will drive costs up for members in the pool vs if the obese people were healthy.
If the cost is increased enough that a person can't have insurance, sure why not go with that argument?
It's not a matter of boo hoo some people have to pay more money, and more an issue of some people just won't be able to have insurance/health coverage.
