Sure, AI slop sucks - but going around just spamming "this is AI" under every picture on the internet is not helpful. Pretty much every phone these days has a really simple shortcut for reverse image search built in. USE IT. Sometimes you find out that "AI slop" is in the Smithsonian archive!

In less pedantic news - just found out that SO MANY of my favorite creators are following the Mississippi Free Press and I'm like, crying. That's my HOME STATE, y'all, and people are listening to what people there have to say. Which is not something MSians have always been able to take for granted.

Seeing a lot of discourse around Daylight Savings Time again and I have to say, yet again, people who want year-round standard time must hate me personally. I hate short days. I'm depressed enough in winter without the sun basically setting at 4 in the afternoon. GIVE. ME. MY. DAYLIGHT.

I don't think there is such a thing as "morning people." I think they're a myth perpetuated by a shadowy cabal to make the world operate in the early daytime, because they knew people like me would be too powerful if allowed to get any meaningful sleep without medicating away our circadian rhythms.

A screenshot from the video game Baldur's Gate 3, where the camera has glitched and is looking through the back of a character's head, showing the back of the mouth and eyeball textures. It looks extremely silly.
I haven't stopped laughing about this all day. #bg3

What I needed to do: write a small script to scrape a couple files I needed off a website.
What I ended up doing: setting up some old spare hard drives and rebuilding significant portions of my home server.
Did I ever get the files? No.
But I sure did shave some yaks.

4-panel vertical comic. (1) 100 Years Ago [two people standing next to bicycle with small car nearby] PERSON 1: Itβs too dangerous riding a bike with these cars around. I should get a car, too. (2) 50 Years Ago [two people between smaller car and bigger car] PERSON 2 with short hair: Small cars are less safe in collisions with larger vehicles, so I should get a bigger one. (3) Today [two people between big car and even bigger car] PERSON 1: Everyone has huge SUVs now. If I donβt get the biggest one, Iβm putting my family at risk. (4) Soon [two people next to large armored car with spiked clubs attached] PERSON 2: If I donβt install more whirling spike clubs, Iβll be destroyed by all the other drivers who...

I wish more people understood that not all autism is visible, but all autism is disabling.
If you don't see it, it's because we're actively hiding it. (Not for us, for others.)
But hiding our autism means our needs are also invisible. And unmet needs = inner turmoil. π£

A crocheted scarf in very bright 90s neon rainbow colors.
I just finished this scarf so I'm showing it to everyone who will look at it. So far it's gotten compliments like "Lisa Frank in Scotland" and "bus seat fabric", which in my book is high praise. Personally I was thinking 90s windbreaker fabric, but either way, I am obsessed.

Right now (as a junior dev) I'm using vibe coding to learn by fixing. It cuts through the part I don't like (boilerplate and scaffolding) and leaves me with the parts I do enjoy (bug fixes and customization). But critically I also learn from all this. I dread becoming a senior to AI juniors.

The edge of a typical office cubicle desk with dingy white laminate and a demarcated ridge between the flat surface and the curved edge that is designed, presumably, specifically to cut into the forearms of anyone who dares to lean on the desk as one might when one wants to be comfortable whilst working.
This style of desk edge should be outlawed. What if I want to comfortably lean on the edge of the desk while I ponder my computer screen? Ouchy ridge says "nay" π

When talking about the flaws of the education system here in the US, there sure is a wide menu to choose from. But lately I think our problems are less about what is taught, how it's taught, etc. and more about a culture which seems to pretend there is a point at which you are "done" with it.

PSA of the day: it's okay to admit you don't know something, or better yet to look up what you're talking about before you speak! Yeah it's a lot EASIER to go around being confidently wrong, but it's more fun to be confidently right and have a sense of smug superiority. π

There's also something gross about the concept that your hobby has to produce something useful for it to be valuable and not just a waste of time. But that's some Protestant work ethic BS and I don't want to get into that right now lol.
