Even with decent insurance, it's not cheap. And if you're dealing with multiple issues, those tests pile up quickly.
I've been lucky enough to have some good doctors who get it and try to minimize budgetary impact, but so many are either unaware or unconcerned and fail to take impact into account.
One thing that never ceases to amaze me is that some doctors seem to think that medical tests and medications are easily financially within reach for all patients. "Let's get you an MRI, this place can get you right in." Ok, but they want payment in advance and that $$ was set aside for car repair.
