Mating season for the foxes, this one was intent on a tracking a vixen and ignoring both me and the mice. #mammals

It is always nice to indulge in some moon watching and the light from a full moon over a calm wintery landscape dusted with snow is extra special.

Badgers emerging into a frosty night, no doubt January will be colder.

A quiet moment with the badgers at the mid point of a winter's walk. Wonderfully peaceful even with the wind blowing strong.

The heterodyne alerts the user to the presence of bats in real time, it is a notification to look about and see a bat that might otherwise be missed. And of course we get the wonderful feeding raspberry in synchronisation with the action.

The rain stopped and the clouds moved away allowing for a magical meet up with the badgers, illuminated with the light from the full moon. #mammals #moon

The light reflected from the rising full moon counters the early arrival of night. One of the first badgers to emerge into the still winter air expertly finds a handful of peanuts by sense of smell.

Fingers crossed, I may just be missing him by being in the wrong place, the visits are certainly dark now and that makes seeing them that bit harder let alone picking out who is who. Sorry to hear that Bobby has gone 😟.

They do look ready should they have to have an extended sleep-in. I don't think that is Mr A, I haven't been able to pick him out this month, it's not like him to be shy.

The badgers with gifted peanuts, they know the area well and will forage in the sheltered areas later, away from the effects of the frost.

One of the badgers moving forward, searching for peanuts at the start of the night. The moonlight creating dark and light patterns amongst the trees. #mammals

A side view of a European badger stood on the bare soil of the badger sett in front of a small tree, a few fallen leaves on the ground amongst some fallen twigs and branches.

Mr Arbuckle taking an interest in some peanuts, even if he is probably already at his pre-winter comfort weight.

A fold out Winter scene showing a landscape moving from urban houses to rural countryside with fields and cottages. In front are two stand up animals: a fox and a hare.

So this is my new Winter / Christmas scene this year, this urban moving into rurual Winter landscape which is die cut and features a separate stand up hare and fox.

It is large at 59cm long x 21cm high and folds up so you can post it in a C5 envelope. Price £9.

Good question, earthworms vanish into their burrows as I approach but have never waited to see how long before they resume feeding. Gulls do a clever tap dance to trick the worms to emerge so it is complex. Not sure about artificial lighting, the torch (to avoid snails) brings a big & sudden change.

The rain has brought earthworms to the surface and the badgers are working the fields. Vibration from footsteps (or light from a torch) will send the worm back underground but badgers are experts. #mammals

It was and still is common in magazines, shutter speed and lens focal length and aperture can be of interest to other photographers akin to screen mesh size, ink and paper choice. Camera manufacturer tags are generally meaningless.

Volume on! (Sound is straight from bat, no detector or amp!).

This little Whiskered bat was found roosting on Holland & Barrett's door, Honiton. The species is always full of rage! (Maybe he wanted a calming herbal tea?). Safely released. #bats #wildlife #nature @batconservation.bsky.social

Might be a food cache, digging there simply because it is suitable soft ground.

There are no plum trees in the hedges near Mr Arbuckle so I bring him some seasonal windfalls, he clearly enjoys them. #mammals

A cloud did a good job of hiding the moon for a while but in the end the two worked together and created a delicately soft light show.

A little bit early in the evening for the #badger cub to leave the safety of the sett entrance but a stretch to reach an offered peanut is in order. #mammals
