This is a video from our paper published in the Journal of Fluid Mechanics today. We show that vortex shedding can be induced in the wake of a cylinder forced to rotate periodically at Reynolds numbers as low as Re=1 for higher rotation rates.

Congratulations to Daniela Caraeni for winning one of the best poster prizes of the Graduate Students Research Symposium at the College of Engineering, UMass Amherst. @umassengineering.bsky.social. Excellent work Daniela!
In our paper just published in βComputers in Biology and Medicineβ, we explore the utility of Proper Orthogonal Decomposition in elucidating coronary flow dynamics in patient-specific arteries pre- (left in the sample video) and post- (right) stent placement.

Together with the usual latest research, Volume 1000 includes special Editorials and Focus on Fluids articles.
πΈ includes graphical abstracts of Volume 1000 F1 β F10 and background image from Sunil et al. doi: 10.1017/jfm.2021.894
This is an image from Umang Patelβs Gallery of Fluid Motion poster (gfm.aps.org). These are polymeric stresses in the wake of a flexibly-mounted cylinder placed in inertial-elastic flow. Viscoelasticity is increased in the left image.

I thought of a sneaky way to find my people on this thing.
Self-identify and I will add you...
See you at APS-DFD!

Here is a clip of a video we submitted to the Gallery of Fluid Motion APS DFD 2024. We place free-to-move cylinders in the wake of a rigid cylinder to see how they re-organize themselves.
