🌍 Did you hear? The new IPBES #BizBiodiversity report confirms it: businesses that ignore biodiversity are putting their own survival at risk. It's time to rethink how companies interact with nature. 🏑

Scientists tagging 10,000 bogong moths to solve mystery The project's success largely relies on citizen scientists spotting a distinct white dot on the wings of moths.

The alpine caves where they congregate have been monitored for thousands of years by Indigenous Australians, but the lowland breeding grounds remain unknown.

"By figuring out where they go from the mountains, we can understand the places we need to look out".

NZ has 'healthy stock levels' of fuel - MBIE Iran has said the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20 million barrels of the world's traded oil moves each day, is closed.

We have just 3 weeks supply of Diesel before our country grinds to a halt

Know what we dont have a limited supply of? Wind and Solar.

🏝️Plants follow the island rule for leaf size: small-leaved mainland species grow bigger on islands, large-leaved species shrink, producing no net change overall. Herbivory and climate had little effect @xmoreira.bsky.social

Not sure why but it's super helpful for identifying plants. I'm less inclined to agree with moa browsing as a driver. More likely light and maybe temperature influencing photosynthetic rates. I'd start by doing light curves and temperature curves to find optimum PAR and temp of photosynthesis.

Without USAA-IPCC, US scientists wouldn’t be able to contribute to various @ipcc.bsky.social reports.

Extreme weather is transforming the world’s rivers. We need new ways to protect them Rivers support billions of people but are among the least protected parts of nature. A major review shows what needs to be done as climate change accelerates.

When extreme events happen together or in sequence, their impacts can be catastrophic for people and river biodiversity. Whether that’s a flood following a drought, a drought and heatwave operating in unison, or a flood falling on saturated ground, the impacts of these compound events can multiply.

We're probably getting pretty close to 700 science jobs lost over this term of government, directly linked to reforms/cuts. And believe me: the country wasn't overflowing with them to start with.

Federal funding for US biomedical research is moribund.

Since October 1 2025, NIH is -80% in new grants and -70% in values (total dollars).

Labs are closing down and researchers are leaving science.

To what end?

Anger over plans to abolish New Zealand’s dedicated environment ministry Critics say proposal to fold department into a new β€˜mega ministry’ will dilute accountability and put nature protections at risk

It makes no sense to rush into a giant centralised government department that merges environment into housing/transport etc. it creates huge transaction costs, taking NZ back years in effective climate and environment action, losing focus, accountability & skills www.theguardian.com/world/2026/f...

Pay equity β€˜select committee’ finds β€˜flagrant and significant abuse of power’ A group of female former MPs subjected the pay equity overhaul to the scrutiny it should have received before passing into law. Their newly released report is damning.

When National, ACT, and NZ First gutted pay equity last year, they didn’t listen to the voices of women, workers, or experts. The People’s Select Committee was formed so that the voices of Aotearoa could be heard on pay equity - and their findings are damning for the National-led Govt. #nzpol
