The information one can obtain from obituaries, particular ones from Germans from Russia communities never stops surprising me. Through these obituaries I've now identified another set of 3rd and 4th great grandparents and a few more ancestral surnames! #genealogy

No she wasnβt. She immigrated to Canada with her mom and two siblings, and they came to Alberta to meet up with her father who had immigrated the year before! They immigrated through the Empire Settlement Act.

Thatβs amazing! I need to spend more time researching my Ontario ancestors! Iβve learned a lot already about the Trenton area just from learning about Cyrus and Sarah, and I canβt wait to learn more!

Week 4 of #52ancestors : Overlooked
I decided to do some quick research on a family line I donβt tend to research. In that little time I found that my 5th great grandfather Cyrus Weaver owned a distillery in Hastings Co, Ontario! Below is an article when my fifth great grandma sold it. #genealogy

I love this question! In 1925, I had 28 known living ancestors. My closest ancestor would be my 3rd great grandmother, Louisa. She would have been about 365 miles/587km away in Ontario! Fun fact - my farthest ancestor would be 3,406 miles away in Paisley, Scotland! #Genealogy

Can you read cursive? It's a superpower the National Archives is looking for.
The National Archives looking for volunteers with an increasingly rare skill: Reading cursive.
How's your cursive? For many of us here - being able to read old script is a requirement. Well... the National Archives is looking for some assistance:

A sepia tone photograph of Francis Cadwell with a curly and trimmed bear and mustache wearing a suit and bow tie. He is sitting in a photo studio setting.
The prompt this week for #52ancestors is favorite photo. This was such a difficult choice, but I settled on this photo of my 2nd great grandfather. I'm really lucky to have a few photos of him and the rest of the family from that time period.

I also did not have great results using AI to transcribe some records. The best thing it helped with was suggesting words it could be based off of the context, but actual transcribing was a failure.

Circa 1631 based on him buying land in 1652. Unfortunately no records Iβve located have specifically stated his age (not surprising for the time period)

This is such a good question! I think I would bring back my 8x great grandfather (yay New England!) and ask him where he was before he suddenly popped up in Connecticut buying land in 1654.

My favorites have to be the paintings my grandmother made! She died about a month after I was born, which makes them extra special as I donβt remember her.

Iβve been struggling to decipher a word in a 17th century medical record. I was curious if ChatGPT could help me figure it out. It hasnβt (yet) but it sure is a great way to brainstorm ideas and to figure out steps to find the solution! #genealogy #AI

Most of my 9th great grandparents arrived in the United States before 1640. My most recent is my great grandmother who arrived in Canada from Scotland in 1926. So estimated around 286 years! #genealogy

An example of how amazing FamilySearch's full text search has been for my research: I just discovered a whole new manuscript collection (John Winthrop Jr's medical records 1657-1669, held by the Massachusetts Historical Society) that has given me brand new insight into my Cadwell family. #genealogy
